I must say what a pleasant surprise, through the cloud of dust and rubble Robert Rodriguez emerges to save us from the constant remakes and crap Hollywood has been feeding us. I went into this movie not expecting a whole lot but was quickly slapped in the face and woken up. This movie was keep pretty old school and felt like it belonged in the predator series (not including AVP). Rodriguez set out to combine the old school predator movie with a little new and I must say he pulled it off well. If anyone was thinking about going see it I recommend it, being a pretty big fan of the first one.

I've only seen AVP A mate of mine is a die hard Alien fan and he's kind enough to punish me on a regular basis for having watched and enjoyed AVP. I get by with a little help from my friends...

well i quite enjoyed AVP, wasn't the best film in the world but certainly not the worst either! I am quite looking forward to seeing the new predators movie though. I've heard very good things.

I've seen AvP multiple times. But that's mostly just because I'm a sucker for Yautja and Kiande amedha.

Well in no way am i talking bad about AVP but AVP and AVP2, they are on a different level than the the alien and predator line. Though I like the Alien and predator movies by themselves more the AVPs were pretty good.

For me the biggest thing I'd wished they'd done different in AVP and AVP2 was the time period they'd set the films in. I'd wished they'd set it in the future timeline that the alien films are in, rather than the preditor time period.
I'd have much prefered seeing marines fighting the preditors and aliens, instead of a bunch of scientists and townsfolk.
The new preditor movie does look good though, I've only seen a quick trailer for it.
Glad to know they've tried bringing back elements that made the 1st preditor film work so well.

I'm a huge fan of the original Predator, it's a fantastic scifi action thriller and one of my all time faves. Predator 2 was cheesy, gory fun. AVP was pretty tame but ok for a laugh but AVP-R was awful. However Predators was surprisingly good. It helped that they took the concept back to basics but also expanded the Predator mythology. Also the tone, like the original, was that of a serious miltary actioner with tactics and strategies and booby traps etc. It looked and felt like a proper sequel to the Arnie classic. Also Adrien Brody was remarkably convincing as a ruthless, hardass mercenary. Best bit? Yakuza with a Samurai sword vs a Predator. Sweet!

I haven't seen this yet but my friend Mike who is really into the same style of movies as I am was disappointed with this.
He said you hardly see the Predators at all.

Well thats because they stuck to the same style as the old one. Thats one of the problems with creature features now they show the creature way to much and spend less time on the plot and character building. The first predator was great in that they didnt focus on the predator as much as they did the survival of the victims.

I always have mixed feelings about "showin' the creature". I usually love it when we get a clear look of a cool monster as often as possible (like in AVP ) on the other hand, some of my favorite films and film monsters stick to the unwritten 'scarier-when-you-dont-see-it' rule. Best example is Hammer's Dracula series with Chris Lee.

Personally I like the balance they put in predator and predators, they should the predator just enough to where it didnt take away from the plot.
