This looks extraordinary! I think the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society has outdone themselves on this one. Pay close attention to the impressive "thing" skulking across the rooftop during a dark and stormy night. Now, I haven't read the tale in some time, but, I think, it's a Mi-Go.
The Society is looking to get some theatrical bookings out of this before it hits DVD/Blu-Ray some time in 2011.
An instant buy on this one, for sure!

I've never really seen a Lovecraft picture, and I'm not really familiar with his work. Can you guys recommend some films which serve as a nice introduction?

This is a case where even though I can recommend you some movies, none of them are really firm adaptations of his tales, they're more inspired by because the man had the unique ability to describe the indescribable, if that makes any sense. His tales, his best ones, are about dread, plain and simple. You might have to read some of the tales, as well as see some of the movies.
Personally, I think, the one that comes the closest is THE RESURRECTED. I have not seen the Society's silent inspired THE CALL OF CTHULHU but from what I understand that one comes pretty damn close to the source material as well. This is a list of every flick I have in my collection:
THE RESURRECTED (based on the novella, THE CASE OF CHARLES DEXTER WARD) FROM BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR BRIDE OF RE-ANIMATOR BEYOND RE-ANIMATOR THE DUNWICH HORROR (1970) DIE, MONSTER, DIE (based on his tale THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE) DREAMS IN THE WITCH-HOUSE DAGON (based on his novella THE SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH; though, he does have a tale called DAGON, but this movie isn't based on it)

Nice collection SWF! I've got the same plus the Unnamable movies, Necronomicon, Call of Cthulhu and The Haunted Palace.
Hawkeye, of the movies I highly reccomend Re-Animator, Dagon and The Haunted Palace (starring Vincent Price!). The Resurrected and Necronomicon are also very good. But yeah, most of them deviate wildly from the source material. The silent Call of Cthulhu is indeed the most faithful, but would probably be better appreciated after reading some stories. Speaking of which....
A great introduction to HPL's writing would be penguin modern classics 'The Call of Cthulhu (and other weird stories)'. It includes some of his most famous and most of my favourite stories like the title story, Re-Animator, The Hound, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, The Rats in the Walls, etc. A great collection! The emphasis in this set is mainly on horror (HPL also wrote fantasy and sci-fi on occasion).

Nice collection SWF! I've got the same plus the Unnamable movies, Necronomicon, Call of Cthulhu and The Haunted Palace. Serious envy on THE UNNAMABLE and NECRONOMICON. Because there is no region 1 release of either I don't have them, but I do still own NECRONOMICON on VHS. My Lovecraft DVD wishlist: THE HAUNTED PALACE THE UNNAMABLE NECRONOMICON CAST A DEADLY SPELL (Nice homage to Lovecraft as a whole) WITCHHUNT (Though the sequel has nothing to do with his mythos, I still like it. Not sure whether that would go on my Lovecraft DVD shelf, or not) Lovecraft rules hands down. I have read all of his stuff and never once was disappointed. Awesome. Lovecaft NEVER dissappoints. I still go through bouts of needing to read him. Favorite tale, well, one of them anyway -- THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE. That whole ending feels like I'm reading an account of someone's nightmare, and I have even had dreams with that particular vibe. Shivers.

'The Haunted Palace' is definatly one I'm checking out, same goes for 'Re-Animator'. I was under the impression that Karloff's 'Die Monster Die' was rather dissapointing? Is it...?

THE HAUNTED PALACE and THE RESURRECTED are both based on the novella, THE CASE OF CHARLES DEXTER WARD.
I like DIE, MONSTER, DIE, but as to whether you will like it, I can't say. The whole flick is done like one of Corman's Poe flicks, the look and vibe, more than Lovecraft. I think, you'll probably have to go on faith here and just check it out cold.

Here's a book I recommend to anyone who's a fan of Lovecraft and his many adaptations. It covers a shit load of movies, anything that has even a vague connection to the man's writings is dissected. Great pictures, too. Now, I don't know if any of you guys know about the below flick, but it's the best "unofficial" adaptation of THE LURKING FEAR ever made. Dan O'Bannon worked on the script and it was supposed to be a direct adaption of the tale, but he said the filmmakers fucked it up, which is why that title is absent. I bought it many years ago under it's original title, HEMOGLOBIN, which I like better than BLEEDERS. The BLEEDERS title is the only one that's available now. They're both region 1 releases. Don't know if it was eve released in the U.K.

Anthing Corman style is perfectly acceptable, and ofcourse with Karloff you can't go wrong! 'Hemoglobin' and 'Bleeders' with m'colleague Rutger Hauer? Excellent! Gotta love the man -
Fries Home Video? Nobody told me you could get DVDs at McDonalds...
