Best. Mini-series. Ever. ;D
I haven't ever read Pratchett's Discworld series, although it's been on my 'to-read' list for awhile now. But just as a piece of entertainment I thought it was absolutely top-notch. It somehow managed to spend the whole time hanging around in this kind of grey state of drama/humor and never felt off. And despite all the constant moving it never felt disjointed for me, it all flowed nicely somehow...
I gave it a 5/5 on Netflix.

You seen the other two min-series yet? Hogfather and Going Postal.

I have not. I'll check out Hogfather on Netflix (although looking at it, I'm sad to see it's not Christopher Lee as Death again, Lee's voice ...it's like his vocal cords were coated in awesomesauce).

Just watched Hogfather. Thought it was very good as well, though it lacked the humor of The Color of Magic, my two main issues were sometimes Death's eyes effect didn't work well and you could see an outline of the person behind, and how Susan cried over the boar corpse...seemed very out of place. The characters were better, they felt more established and developed. And Death was just awesome. Still, I can't help giving it a 4/5. Not because of anything it did, I just prefer the humorous style of The Color of Magic more.
ETA: Was amused by the revelation of Death/Albert at the end, though I wonder who Death was buying the horse for...

I thought the hogfather was the weakest of the three mini-series, but than it was the 1st one they'd done. Why susan was crying over the boar worked better in the book.
Going Postal I enjoyed, though wasn't impressed with the Banshee makeup.
There are also two older cartoon min-series based on another two disc books. Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music.

I'm a huge Discworld fan and i love the the three mini series. I thought the Hogfather got better as the show went on with the first half a little weaker than the second (i saw them all in 2 parts on sky). The Colour of Magic was brillaint and Going Postal was fun too. I hope they will make as good a job of the next one which will be the Unseen Academicals. I'd definately recommend you read the books as they are so funny. Christopher Lee's voice is always impressive and he is excellent as Death in the Colour of Magic. However i did actually prefer Ian Richardson's performance as Death in the Hogfather. Perhaps however Lee is better as Death in the Colour of Magic as that relates to a time when Death didn't have quite as much of an interest in humans and he voiced the character quite clinically where as there was some compassion in Richardsons performance.

Hadn't heard that the next one was going to be Unseen Academicals. Personally I think that is the wrong one to do. It's a shame they didn't do them in a better sequence, rather than picking books almost at random. Making Money would have been a better one to do next, as it follows on from Going Postal.
I really wish they'd done the guards storyarch books, starting with the first one, and working through each in turn. As that set I think best shows the evolution of the City over time.

I really wanted them to do a Guards one too but i suspect they are doing Unseen Academicals so they can cash in on the fact it is the latest one out. But i agree Making Money would be more sensible. However i have heard through the official Disworld Newsletter straight from the mouth of Sir Terry that he has sold the rights to the city watch books to a tv production company who are going to produce a tv series. I'm not at this point sure if it will fetch the Guards mentioned in the books or a new set of characters but either way it could be very excited if done properly

Thats very interesting. A Guards Series would be cool Now all I need is for a film company to make a big budget version of Good Omens and I'll be a happy chappy.

Not heard anything recent about them trying again to make Good Omens. I know there was talk of doing one years ago - with Christopher Lambert (sp) playing the angel - but that all fell through.
I wonder if they'll try to get Vinny Jones to have a part in Unseen Academicals, as he's both an actor and an ex-footballer.

thewertzone.blogspot.com/2011/03/discworld-city-watch-tv-series-in-works.htmlA little bit on the City Watch TV series. Now the big question is who should they cast as the main characters, in particular Sam Vimes? I know Paul Kirby always based his drawings of Sam Vimes on the late Pete Postlethwaite and he had been the favourite amongst fans to play the character, however his untimely death now means there is no definate actor to fill that role. Thoughts on casting anyone?

well, in an ideal world I'd have gone for Viggo Mortensen, but his salary is probably more than the budget of the series Sean Bean could be good too. I'm sat here trying to think of actors I've seen playing characters that are 'heros' but are not untouchable (ie like Die Hard where he wins more from determination than from being super good with guns). I guess I should be saying "who fits my mental image of Sam" rather than which actors have I seen play a down to earth, put upon hero. So looking forward to both this series and the good omens mini-series
