I fully believe that only two things have kept America and the United Kingdom from going to war with each other over back taxes and the correct pronunciation of the word schedule. Kelly Brooks' tits and the amazing British Sci Fi series Doctor Who. So three things technically, but whatever. Season Six just started up and Proboards' useless search system has not turned up another Doctor Who thread. Eleven is my favorite NuWho Doctor so far, and Amy Pond almost erases the bad taste that was Rose Tyler and her idiotic love affair with Ten. Now if only Moffat can write a scene for Smith between "Daffy Doc" and "I am the Oncoming Storm, Rawr!" Also, The Silent is watching you poop.

Dr Who is one of my favourite tv shows.
Every so often I'll go on Amazon and start adding up how much it'll cost to replace my VHS copies. Then I sigh at just how expensive it would be, and the fact not all of them have been released yet on DVD.

komodo, you've missed off Peter Cushing from your Dr Who lineup.

Doctor Who is fuckin' brilliant! Matt Smith is great.
That being said, I think the season opener was crap. The serial was just stuffed with great ideas, but none of them really stood out because there was so many of them. So many question's askes in EP 1, so little anwsers in EP 2. And the music in particular bugged me. It is so damn EPIC for no reason.
Phew, I'm glad I got that out of my system. I've mentioned Dr Who and the Daleks many times of the forum, so most of you know I have good faith in the show and love it to bits. Infact, I've just ordered 'Planet of the Spiders', 'Robot', 'Talons of Weng Chiang', 'Caves of Androzani' AND the 1996 Tv Movie, so I have plenty of Who to look forward to (which rhymes).

Sadly, I couldn't find one of those group picture montages that included him. The two movies he appeared in aren't canon to the rest of the series, but they're hella fun. Peter Cushing should have played The Doctor proper, though. He remains the best Van Helsing ever. Hugh Jackman can suck it.

I don't class the later movie as cannon either. For a number of reasons, 1st of all they moved the eye of harmony inside the tardis (the eye of harmony is a black hole which Rassilon used to power the timelords technology - for those that don't know). That and making the doctor half human! Just no. NO! Bad film makers, do it again and get a rolled up newspaper across the nose! At least Peter Cushing's ones were linked by being remakes of two of William Hartnels storylines. Ok, I've made a decision. I WILL start replacing my VHS collection of Dr Who with DVDs, a few every month until I have all the ones they've brought out. The government kindly gave me an extra £20 a month due to the changes to PAYE so I'll use that

Well, I'm committed now to buying the DVD versions, as I've just ordered £250-ish worth of Dr Who DVDs!! Bought all the Sylvester McCoy & Tom Baker DVDs that Amazon has for region 2. Some were boxsets, so I've ended up with a couple of stories from the other Doctors too.
So, my originaly plan of buying about 5 a month, has gone completely out the window, and it looks like I'll be buying a Doctor 'Set' a month instead. Next month it'll be Peter Davison.

I don't class the later movie as cannon either. I'm watching the TV Movie for the first time later this week! I don't really care for 'cannon' discussions Luckily 'Doctor Who' is not as cannon-driven as Star Trek or other shows.

Yep, and I rather liked it! It looks great and has great pace, but as a pilot it fails completely. It's not about adventures in either time or space. Instead it's set in 1999 and basically is a (fun) cat & mouse chase between the Doctor and the Master. In other words, it's not a good representation of what the classic show was or the new american show could have become. No wonder they didn't pick it up in the states!
That being said, I thought it was cool. It was the millenium themed episode we never got and Eric Roberts (Julia's brother) is really very amusing as the Master. Everybody hates him in this role, but I thought he was fab!
As for wheter it's canon or not, who cares...it's the Eight Doctor, Doctor Who in america, McCoy regenerating in a blockbuster style, the campest Master ever and beautiful photography! I'm a new Doctor Who TV Movie fan!

You know i enjoyed it too. I know most fans didn't appreciate it but it was a nice tv movie before they finally got their finger out of their arse and started making it again.

hmmm, perhaps I'll watch it again and try to watch it on it's own merrits rather than tie it in with the old Dr Who's. Perhaps I'll grow to like it.
