The Howling is a very well known name brand and the core story of a small town/colony of werewolves living amongst us is such a cool one that, given Hollywood's insatiable appetite for remakes, will almost certainly get the remake treatment at some point.
If they do do a remake then, personally, I'd like to see them go back to the original novel and adapt it more closely making it as dark, scary and brutal as possible. The first Howling is a great film, but it is more of a big horror movie in joke by John Sayles & Joe Dante.
WHoever remakes it should just concentrate on creating some great characters and making something atmospheric that just scares and freaks the bejesus out of people.
We need and deserve a new classic werewolf movie as we so rarely get them. Something to remind people just how scary and cool these critters can be. Maybe we'll get that with the new Wolfman movie. I can but hope.
As for Lost Boys, not something I really care about. It was ok, but I much prefer Near Dark as a vampire film and as a movie in general.

Well i just hope that if they remake the original Howling movie they improve the end transformation scene.

I agree that if they do remake the howling, it needs to be done as a straight horror film, with the emphasis on being a scary movie. Gore by all means. But they need to moderate the effects so it's not a gorefest, but a scarefest.
I liked both lost boys and near dark. For different reasons. Near dark felt more realistic in how such vampires would be. Where as Lost Boys had some good music and was a laugh.

Gore is so over rated now anyway. It's been done!

How could you possible not like Lost Boys? Vampire Kiefer Sutherland! Kiefer vampire! VampKief! lol - you're a fan of the Kiefster then. He's cool, it's just Jason Patric and Corey Haim that really grind my gears. Jaimie Gertz was pretty cute, though. I don't dislike Lost Boys, it's a fun flick that I can watch if it's on the telly. It's just not something I have strong feelings about - unless Jamie Gertz is on the screen

There's a sequal being mentioned for Lost Boys:
Lost Boys 2: The Tribe - Directed by P.J. Pesce - In Pre-Production at moment.
As for the kid. Not sure which one you mean.
One of the Frog Brothers? That'd be Jamison Newlander or Corey Feldman

I need to see Near Dark. *goes off to find Near Dark* Near Dark is a great movie. Basically it's a contemporary vampire western. You have three of the cast direct from Aliens playing three of the vamp family (Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, Jenette Goldstein), it's written by Eric Red (The Hitcher, Bad Moon) and directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break, Strange Days). Bill Paxton is especially great as the bloodthirsty psycho vamp, Severen. If only they could have made a movie like this with werewolves instead of vamps; the family could easily be a pack. Vamps are cool 'n all, but weres rule.

I remember watching it but can't say i remember being blown away by it. Although i do remember Bill Paxton giving a memorable performance.

At the time it came out, there was a lot of talk that the film "rejuvinated" the vampire film sector. That it helped move it away from the old traditional vampire films and the low budget efforts. But than critics will say anything . . . . oops, present company excluded of course Noel
