The Phantom of the Opera (1962) The next in the Hammer list, a remake of the 1943 Claude Rains version but with its own elaborations as well. Another lush colorful Hammer period piece. No supernatural elements but spooky enough. A financial failure, it was lambasted by critics because because the girl singer eventually agreed to be tutored by the Phantom and the opera was a huge success because of her. This made the Phantom, the brilliant composer all of whose works were stolen, more of a hero than a monster and restored some sense of justice being served. The opinion of the critics was that director Terence Fisher had dared to stray from monsterdom and tampered with a masterpiece. Personally, I liked this aspect of the film. After all there had already been dozens of film versions including one starring Woody Woodpeecker.

Paranoiac (1963)
Hammer again. B+W this time, which fits the theme well - Film Noir meets Psycho. Nasty brother wants to get sister committed so he can get the entire inheritance. Other brother thought to have drowned in the lake years before shows up. Things get complicated. Nicely spun tale of plots and betrayals and no one being what they seem. Or are they? Gets even weirder.

The Last Days on Mars (2013) Howl (2015) I have heard very good and very bad about The Last days on Mars. What did you think about it? As for the other one... Howl has become Horror comfort food for me. Just like Late Phases, Dark Was the Night and a few other films. Last Days on Mars is derivative of superior scifi films, but I have soft spot for Liev Schreiber.

Psycho Goreman (2020) My intent was to grab a couple of DVDs from RedBox while I was out today, but it sounded like the weather was going to be too bad tomorrow for me to bother taking them back so I sprung for this on Amazon after seeing a bunch of positive comments. And they were selling it for just a couple of bucks more than the rental charge so I went ahead and spent the $10. Worth it. This thing was a big ball of crazy. Imagine if the Troma team (the fine folks who brought us The Toxic Avenger and Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead among other classics) hopped on the 'kidventure' trend of the 80s (The Goonies, The Monster Squad, The Explorers) and crossed it with the Power Rangers and you might be getting close. From IMDb: "After unearthing a gem that controls an evil monster looking to destroy the Universe, a young girl and her brother use it to make him do their bidding." Preview: youtu.be/yNmngdUaQd8

Talking about the weather being bad, the storm warning text still says the snow is going to start at 5PM this evening but it already started st 11AM this morning. I saw that on the radar earlier. That blue mass was coming up from the southwest much too fast to wait until 5 to get here. They say the storm could last until midday Tuesday. I have been watching the snowfall forecast for days now. It started at 5 to 8 inches. The most recent figure is 18 to 22 inches. High winds too, maybe 45 MPH gusts. There are still several inches on the ground from prior snowfalls where it was not plowed.
Glad I did a bunch of shopping yesterday. And I keep the big freezer downstairs and the big propane tank for the 20kw Generac both full.
Any Yeti movies around worth watching?
