I prefer quadrapeds myself. Biped werewolves seem TOO human, and (to me) that defeats the purpose. A tail...? I have no real opinion there...just whatever works. I agree with the werewolf being digitigrade (after looking that up on www.dictionary.com ;D, I found out that it means "walks on toes"). A "muzzle," as you put it, is preferable. Just a hairy man-face with ears and fangs doesn't do it for me. Fur all over is good, but then again, I like the design of the werewolf in Ginger Snaps. That wolf looked like it had mange, but it worked. I think Rick Baker hit the nail pretty much on the head with AWIL. The only thing I did not like about the design was that the wolf looked like it had a friggin' mane! He was one hairy bitch around the head! The teeth on Baker's design also stood out to me as odd. They almost seem kind of misplaced in a way. Other than that, I think his design was dead-on. All the way down to how they mad the wolf move (real person in the suit to move the arms. It made the movement look more natural). Oh, and lastly...NO CGI UNLESS ABSOLUTELY NECCESARY!!! In an interview, even the great Rick Baker said he would love to do another werewolf movie and utilize modern technology (say it ain't so, Rick!) along with his "classic" method. Bottom line - there's never going to be that perfect werewolf design. We all just have to take what Hollywood dishes out and learn to love it.

I'm a bit hesitant to say what I think an ideal werewolf design should be, since there are so many diverse ones that I like, from the Bad Moon biped to the Ginger Snaps quadrupeds. So I'm pretty open about most designs.
All that aside I pretty much agree with silverclaw, I like the idea of werewolves that can switch between walking on two and four legs. They go down on all fours to move at speed, and stand up to make themselves look big and threatening. And generally I agree that they should have muzzles and plentiful hair and such. They should look more wolf than human.
It's worth noting that quadrupeds are difficult to do convincingly without the use of CG, though. At the end of the day you can always tell that it's just some poor intern crawling around in a wolf suit.

I have to say and i'm sure everyone is aware of my tastes as i probably mentioned them a thousand times! I like my werewolves bipeds with wolf heads and a longish muzzle e.g. Dog Soldiers and William from Underworld Evolution. I also liked the ww in Bad Moon.
I have no real opinion on a tail cos it's not like they need something to wag or anything like that!
I have to say i wasn't over keen on the ww in ginger snaps as i much prefer the designs in the prequel as i prefered the furred up versions!

My personal favorite is the "man-in-make-up" like in "The Wolf-Man" and "Wolf". I think the kind of wolf you have really depends on the kind of movie, the "Howling" wolves for example wouldn't work in "Wolf" etc.

I like the biped, with them dropping to all fours for running fast.
I prefer Wolf-like heads - not keen on the human face with big teeth and hair approach.
I like my werwolfs to look as a sleek blending of man and wolf, the ultimate preditory creature.
I like them to exhibit wolf-like movements and behavour too.

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooove a good bipedal werewolf. make it as wolf like as you can, give it a muzzle, a tail, long; sharp teeth, and apposable fingers and thumbs. that's a perfect werewolf.

So what about their personalities? Looks arn't everything you know.
Mine would be vicious, but with a playful streak. He'd like to hunt, rather then just killing.
he would also reflect in a dark way the feelings they have in human form. (as well as reflecting in human form a lighter version of the instincts of the wolf form).

I really should look into getting the US version of Being Human, to go along with the English version I already have.

The american Being Human werewolf is on all fours and has a lighter coat of fur, It looks like american werewolf in the transformation and American werewolf in Paris.
