When I first saw the trailer for the Mist, I thought to myself, "hey, it's The Fog with a different name!"
But, even though it looks like they stole the idea of a fog, the film looks like it's different enough to be forgiven that.
The basic premise seems to be a group of people are doing their normal shopping at a conveniance store, when in rolls a large dense white fog outside.
When some of the people go outside to investigate "something" gets them. Those inside hear their screams and then silence.
The film looks like it then goes on to deal with how these people cope and react (and of course they keep going out in the fog . . .)
The effects looked pretty good, and depending on how well it's acted it could be a nice little horror film.

It's based on a short story by Stephen King. I really enoyed the story but am apprehensive about the movie as i know what an arse they tend to make of most Stephen King adaptations. But i will definately be watching it. As yet i've not seen a trailer for it but it was mentioned a couple of issues back in either Empire or Total Film Magazine.

I've enjoyed most of the stephen king films. Though must admit I find that the endings tend to fall down.

I haven't read the story yet, but I've listened to an audio performance. I'm worried about the CGI in the movie, as it looked ridiculous in Dreamcatcher...then again, what were you going to do with aliens like that? That movie had other problems, as well.

Loved the story, have been looking forward to the movie with cautious optimism. I hear they've changed the ending but the book ending wasn't overly fulfilling. One thing I really like is that the dvd will have 2 versions of the movie, one in colour and one in black and white! I love black and white and think it's a shame nobody really films in it anymore. I think it would do a lot to disguise poor CGI (I maintain that Van Helsing woulda been so much better if it had been black and white all the way through, the first 5 minutes were pretty cool).

I liked it well enough. Rough ending. Would like to see the b&w version. Especially since they didn't just "turn off the color" but actually processed it to look like the director wanted it to in black and white.

It's been ages since i last read the story but i do remember the basic plot line. Dreamcatcher was quite a bad movie but as dedwyre said how do you make things like that look good?

Got the R1 special edition recently as I have doubts that we'll even get it in the UK. I loved it, it does total justice to the novella and even improves the ending. My only problem with it was the CGI (as usual), and as I suspected it looks much better in black and white. The black and white version is great.

Yup. I got the special edition R1 too.
And I very must liked the film. Thought it was really good. Didn't mind the CGI as it was pretty well done, and didn't look too superimposed on reality.
I thought the ending helped make the film, and that's all I'm going to say on that.
I thought the actors suited their parts, and performed well.
It's a film I'd recomend.
Not seen it in black and white yet. Never been a big fan of black and white, though I'll probably give that a go in the future.

It's now out at cinema's in the UK from July 4th
I saw it ages ago just after it came out in the US. Brilliant film. But then it is Frank (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile)Darabont. The ending is a killer. Horribly wonderful.
