This topic's pretty old, but I thought I'd continue it rather than starting a new one.
I saw The Mist and thought it was pretty good. When the tentacles first appeared, they looked rather fake due to the CGI, and I was worried that the film would turn into Dreamcatcher, which I thought was good until the first monster showed up. But this movie did a good job of keeping the creepiness in tact through focusing more on the characters inside the supermarket than on the monsters outside. Plus, they used background music sparingly, which really helps.
The ending was incredibly sad. If it had been an independent, artsy film, it probably would have ended the way the book did, with the characters driving into the mist, leaving the audience to come to their own conclusions about what happens to them. As it is, it's probably the best ending they could do. Had their been a happy ending, I would have been relieved for the characters, but the whole thing would've seemed cliche and flat. Strange for me to say, as I usually like happy, heroic endings, but it just wouldn't have seemed right here.
That said, I probably won't see it again, because I don't really like to make myself sad.

Oh, don't get me started on her. As a Christian, that sort of behavior disgusts me.
I liked that they had the biker guy call her out, even though it was relatively early: "Lady, I believe in God, too. I just don't think he's the bloodthirsty @$$hole you do."

I liked when the old woman threw a tin of peas at her.
Out of curiosity, did anyone watch it in B&W mode?

Yep, and I preferred it. Had a good B-movie feel and made the CGI easier to swallow.

I probably would have liked the black and white even better. Maybe, just maybe, I'll watch it again if I get the chance to see that version. Or maybe I'll just watch the parts with the monsters to see how less fake they might look.

That's a thought. I'll skip through to the good bits.
