Okay, so I was browsing through 'My Documents' this morning and I happened upon this werewolf novel I started writing a couple years ago. It doesn't look like I'm going to do much with it, so I figured I may as well post it here to see what people think. Here's a synopsis I wrote for it:
"Blood Silver Moon : Werewolf Dawn" is the first book in a potential series of gothic horror / adventure novels aimed primarily at young adults. It is essentially a werewolf story, but quite unlike anything that’s ever been done before.
In a modern-day setting, werewolves co-exist peacefully with humans, and are policed by an organisation known as the Pack of the Blue Moon. This group consists of both werewolves and non-werewolves, who investigate whenever a werewolf attacks a human or butchers animals, and they deal with the creature responsible.
Based in an old manor house, this ‘Pack’ is made up of seven colourful characters. The hero of the story is Jack, a werewolf in his twenties who struggles with the beast inside and is haunted by the literal ghosts of his dark past. His best friend is Conall, who seems much more at home with his wolf side. Faye is a female werewolf who becomes jealous when Jack shows interest in another girl. Lupo is a heavily scarred, one-armed scientist who for personal reasons searches in vain to find a cure to the disease of lycanthropy. There is also a twelve-year-old orphan named Michael, who is the youngest werewolf in England. The non-werewolf members of the team include Douglas, their leader and an educated professor of folklore, and Tatianna, a Goth girl who is primarily employed to watch over the cages in the cellar during the full moon, in order to prevent any of the wolves from escaping.
The story begins with an attack on a farmhouse, in which an eighteen-year-old girl named Robin is bitten and her parents are slaughtered by werewolves. Robin is taken in by the Pack, who teach her the ways of their race and how to maintain control over her wolf side, while they also investigate the identity of the werewolves who attacked the farmhouse.
Jack strikes up an intense, but ultimately doomed romance with this girl, which relates to his own inner struggles. His lycanthropy is essentially a metaphor for the ‘beast’ within us all.
The answer behind the attacks on the farmhouse lies in the return of an ancient and powerful ‘pureblood’ werewolf who has newly arrived from Japan. Meanwhile, the return of a deadly vampire from eastern Europe causes concern for the Pack, but are these two unwelcome arrivals connected in some way?
Here's the first couple of chapters I've redrafted (if people like it, I'll go through some more and post it):
