This is it. This is the film that got me hooked on Werewolf Films. I saw it late night on tv when I was 10 years old and never looked back.
I know to some this is a stuffy and gore-less film but I love everything about it. I think Rick Baker did an amazing job with the look of both Nicholson and Spader. The score filled my fragile mind with swarms of emotions. The scene where Nicholson goes on his first prowl and attacks a deer...brilliant.
Apparently Mike Nichols re shot the last 30 minutes because he didn't think the film was working. I'm wondering what the original ending looked like. I really enjoyed the showdown fight between the two werewolves. I liked the jazzy music that plays over it too.
This film to me feels like an old 50's movie made in the present (mid 90's)
The next day after watching this I went out and bought AAWIL and The Howling. Again I was hooked.

I couldnt really get into it either and I am a HUGE Nicholson fan. However I can see how It would appeal to some.

I think having seen it at such an impressionable age the image of Jack Nicholson's Werewolf for me has become the symbol of the werewolf. I can watch the last 30 minutes on repeat. The look of the werewolves is what really gets me. I think Jack Nicholson at the end looks amazing. I really enjoy the oldschool aproach to the look, feel and delivery.

Interesting, what got me hooked on horror was seeing Jack Nicholson chasing his family with an axe through a hotel.

I think I appreciate this film a little more each time I watch it. Perhaps with the exception of the final act, it is really a very intelligent werewolf movie which is a quite a rare thing. And I too like the look of the werewolves, though much like The Wolfman I am surprised at how they used a $70 million budget to make such a minimalist design.
And fun fact I discovered recently - apparently this was also the highest grossing 'pure' werewolf movie in the US until New Moon came out last year.

Fuck New Moon and all Twilight shit. I refuse to watch it. I have never seen any Twilight at all and will keep it that way.
It looks gay as hell.
On the real subject here, Wolf 1994 wasn't great or terrible. It was ok.

I liked Wolf. I found it interesting to see the slow progress of the curse effect how Jack's character changed over the film. It's not a film I'd watch repeatedly though.

Now you have me interested Arclight. I knew nothing of an alternate ending.

Alternate ending... You learn something new everyday! And while we're on the subject, it's been a while since i've last seen 'Wolf', but I remember enjoying it. I love the look of the werewolf, it's great to see a very understated make-up in an era which featured (very cool but) less subtle creatures.
