I know what your thinking, "This is about werewolf TV not Vampires!", But I do have a reason for posting this.
I've just watched the lastest episode of Season 2 over here in the UK, and they had a werewolf on it. Looks like it'll be a recuring character too, at least for season 2.
The werewolf looks to only trasform on a full moon, and to go full wolf in appearance - though in human form they seem to stronger and sometimes their eyes change colour.

I've not watched a single episode of this tv show and tbh i really don't think the prescense of a werewolf would encourage me. Does anyone else think there is too much of this supernatural romance/action type things on tv at the moment? Or am i just in a bad mood today?

*shrugs* Wouldn't call this series horror, even a little bit. More like Supernatural Drama.

Personally I think this series has had some teeth to it - and it doesn't feel as soppy as the twilight films.
Though I must admit I watch it more for the Daman character than for the Steffen one. He's much more fun, with none of that wishy washy "oh I'm so tragic" attitude that Steffen has, and that's so popular in these kinds of stories. I'd probably have given up watching it with out that character in it.

They did a werewolf transformation on this weeks episode.
Was the painful style of transformation, they didn't show the complete transformation, but than it took hours to change (in the mythos of this series, a werewolf's 1st transformation can take most of the night, as the curse changes his body).
There was a bit when his elbow joint decided to work the other way round which was done well.

Wonder if they'll post the scene on Youtube so i don't have to actually watch the show! It does sound pretty cool scene though.

The werewolf is another german shephard/wolf mix. Though this one comes equipped with dopey looking CGI eyes.
And this is why I hate the paranormal romance genera.

Blind bought this series (seasons 1 and 2) based on recommendation, and likely wouldn't have made it past the first couple episodes if I was just catching it on television weekly. But since I committed the money to it, I pushed my way through and found a few of the characters really growing on me. I also found that I could stomach some of the romantic subplots with some of the action they started throwing at me once things got into full swing. I wouldn't force it on anyone if they resisted, but it's not as bad as its first impression. That said, certainly don't pursue it for the role the werewolf plays in it. It's a side dish at best.

I was disapointed with the last season when they went the way of the vampire/werewolf hybrid. Though they did do it with one of the better backstories as to why they exist.
There was a good flashback episode that showed the origins of the 'original' vampires which was interesting.
But as Dryst says, don't watch this for the werewolves, it is a vampire show foremost. And they made my favourite character tone down his attitude more as he's now a 'love interest' of the main female role than the antagonist that he was in the earlier seasons.

I know what you mean with them "neutering" the best character on the show. You kind of saw it coming at the close of the second season, but held out hope that they would find a way around it. Still, one of the better supernatural type shows out there along with Being Human during a time where it seems like we're saturated with them.
Admittedly, I don't know how much better True Blood is, though I've heard they cover similar territory. I've only seen one episode, and it was kind of... odd.

True Blood isn't bad. Though the main story-arc in each season tends to feel drawn out and stretched more than was good for the pacing of it.
It's got more gore n sex than Vamp Diaries, and they've been introducing more types of supernatural creatures, so far we've had vampires, shapechangers, werewolves, werepanthers, fairies, and a maenad.
The characters are interesting, and each have their own plotlines running, though it tends to center on the relationship between the the main female lead, and her 'hero' vampire lover.
It's much more aimed at adults than either twilight or vamp diaries.
