Hello All,
Its snowing and not stopping anytime soon and I say this so you dont think I have as much time on my hands as this post makes it appear.
The Fox Series Werewolf absolutely terrified me as a child but it is also my favorite television show of all time. I loved the show and was upset it never got a proper ending and that Fox did not get behind it. For starters it should have been an hour and moved away from the Incredible Hulk pattern and really focused on Eric always chasing Skorzeny and later Remy. I think this show could have ran for a few more years and that Fox just gave up on it way too soon. I always hoped for a reboot as if the show was canceled in todays world it would likely have found a new home on cable.
For those familiar with the show I wanted to get opinions on how it should have continued or ended. If your not then you should try and watch it as you wont be dissapointed. Below is what I would have done and I would like your thoughts and alternate takes.
I would have continued with Eric slowly losing his ability to control his werewolf self. I would have him continue to pursue Remy but have it made known to the audience that Remy is not the true head of the bloodline either and it is only made to appear this way to protect the real head of the bloodline. It is made known that pursuant to werewolf law the head of the bloodline is to be protected at all costs and it is their duty to mislead who is the true head of the bloodline which is why Skorzeny allowed Eric and others to believe it was him. Eventually Remy begins to fear Eric and sends a few of his wolves to kill him. They leave a trail of blood in their path bringing attention and tabloid speculation that killings are the result of werewolves. Remy is forced to call off the mission because even if people believe their existence is a myth he does not want people to start loading guns with silver bullets as a precaution.
Eventually Eric can no longer control his wolf self and his anxiety about harming someone causes him to turn himself into Alamo Joe. He wants Joe to kill him but Joe refuses until he is in werewolf form. The moon is afew weeks away and in the mean time the two talk telling each other about their pasts. Eventually Joe thinks about killing the werewolf in "gray wolf" and realizes that he was actually chasing Skorzeny and not Eric in the episode "unicorn". As the moon approaches Joe has nightmares about killing Eric and eventually realizes he will never have peace now that he knows werewolves do exist and he will always be compelled to hunt them. He realizes that his native american heritage plays a large role in this and in their culture he was always considered a part of the group known as hunters. He never realized that his being considered a hunter meant something more than hunting for food.
Eventually he proposes an agreement with Eric where they will work together, he will ensure he does not roam free as a werewolf and is locked down during the full moon and Eric will help him identify werewolves. They eventually travel out of the US to Europe or the "old country" where they face much stronger werewolves but also find allies in people who believe and know of there existence. One episode could be cool in that they lose all their weapons and seem to be ripe to be attacked but are supplied weapons by local hunters who save their lives. Also a subplot would be because Eric never killed and fed while in werewolf form he has not embraced the curse and the human part of him remains, but now he must be even more careful not to kill as if he does the curse will overtake him and he will embrace it. Another plot would be that Eric returns home after hearing of many brutal killings. He believes that his love Kelly will soon be a victim and Remy and his pack are trying to lure him back and he has no choice but to go. He would then find that Kelly has become a werewolf as a part of Remys plan to try and stop him from continuing to seek the head of the bloodline. Remy believes if Eric can be with her he may embrace the curse and stop his quest. Eric does kill her and Remy and finds out that he was not head of the bloodline.
I would end the series with Eric standing at a bus stop and buying a newspaper from a machine with the headline "Animal Attacks Continue". He gets on a bus and is dropped off at a cemetary where he then finds Joe's grave. The date of death is not visible and Eric then returns to the bus stop sits on a bench and then begins to read the paper. The date of the newspaper is shown and it says 2025. That ends the series showing Eric is still on his quest.
I think what I have thrown out could get them through atleast two or three more seasons. The point of there not being a happy ending is to show there were a great many werewolves as the series led us to believe based on the number that Eric ran into and absent being told he had no way of finding out the true head of the bloodline.
If youu want Eric to achieve his quest I would make the head of the bloodline the shewolf who owned the braintree hotel. She could say "couldnt you figure out when I refered to the 17th century I was much older than your normal wolf" "you found what you were seeking long ago and you had the opportunity to be free long ago".
