Hi, here in the UK there are 3 versions of The Wolfman (2010) available. A blu-ray containing the cinema version and a EXTENDED version that has 17 minutes extra footage. Also available is a limited edition tin box which contains the cinema version and a DIRECTORS version which has 16 minutes extra footage. What I want to know is, are there any difference between the 2 and if any, what?
I have the extended version and I would have loved to see the deleted scene which extends the chase through London, the one with the singer in the greenhouse, added back into the movie. Is this in the directors cut?
Cheers

Yea, i guess you can call it directors cut. In order to make a film viewable by gerneral audience, the production company makes the editors cut certain things out. All directors cut means is that they release the true full feature legnth version, the director really doesnt have much to do with anything. Not to say you didnt know that already misterb, just a little info.

Cheers dude, I was wondering why one claimed to be 16 minutes longer and the other 17 minutes? I love the film but I dont believe the extra minutes really add anything to it, the deleted scenes are better and would have been great additions to the final cut.

You see more of a difference in older movies where the audience was shocked by gore way easier than today's viewer. Some of those old movies had damn near an entire kill scene taken out just to be able to show the film. A good example of this is a movie called Anthropaphagus (A.K.A.- The Grim Reaper), if I remember right this movie was banned then a crapy rated version was released with enough scenes missing to piss fans off and a later unrated version was released.

In the good old day's of Hammer films if the producers wanted to get a nasty scene past the british censors (scripts had to be aproved before filming could begin, damn them all to hell) they would write an even more revolting one, which would get cut, leaving the other scene intact.

I agree, uncut versions of older films did tend to have more interesting scenes added back in, or extended from the cut versions of the films. With the more relaxed certifications, cutting a film to be acceptable happens less often, and the cuts now tend to be for timing reasons, so when they add them back in for an uncut or directors cut or extended cut the scenes often don't make much difference (exception being LOTR of course where they filmed footage just for the extended versions on dvd).
Still sometimes you can fall lucky, if a film's been cut so it gets a PG13 rating instead of an 18. Then they directors/extended/uncut versions could have addition material that is worth the slightly more expense of buying that version.
To be honest I'm getting rather fed up of seeing horror films coming out as 15/pg13 ratings just so they may get a bigger box office.
I've got the extended version of the wolfman, but having not seen the cinema one or the blue-ray one I've no way to compair them with each other.

Well put Marcus, and I agree that there are way too many PG13 movies now-a-days. When I was a kid I looked forward to watching a movie I wasnt supposed to watch, it added an extra little....fear towards the film.

A little slow I must agree, but found it creepy and the scene where he pulled the fetus out of the pregnant chick and ate it gave me a chill.
