THE HOWLING/THE HOWLING II: YOUR SISTER IS A WEREWOLF is set for 9/14. Always had a soft spot for II. THE HOWLING TRILOGY Blu-Ray, (III, V and VI) is slated for 10/19. All on 1 DVD, too. Extras for the trilogy are unknown. You can also get the trilogy on standard DVD. And the first two in the series on separate, standard DVDs, in case anyone was wondering. HOWLING IV: THE ORIGINAL NIGHTMARE (a personal fave) is also available, standard DVD only. Dirt cheap, too.

Howling + Howling II in one set!!! SWEET!!!
I don't own any of the Howling films yet. Is the Howling I the special edition version? And does it include the extra's? Haven't seen Howling II, it's got Christopher Lee in it so how bad can it be...

Haven't determined that yet. I still own the Special Editon of THE HOWLING, now, if this new double feature IS the special edition, I'll upgrade in a second.
When I find out, I'll let you know.
HOWLING II is kinda bad, but it's a bad I can watch. And it has absolutely NO connection to the first flick. Takes place over in the U.K. Christopher Lee could stand around in a flick reading the phone book and he'd still be mesmerizing to watch.

Howling II is actually a direct sequel of the first film. Not a good one, mind you, but still.... It starts with Karen's funeral and her brother meeting up with Chris Lee before going to Romania to watch Sybil Danning take off her clothes. Which, really, is as good a reason to head to Romania as any, I guess.
I'd be surprised if there are any extras, but I hope they keep the director's commentary for III from the regular DVD. I thought it was pretty interesting.
I've got 'em all already (save for HOWLING 7: THE SUCKENING and that's only because it's not out in region 1) but I guess I'll upgrade to blu on all of them I can, even if I don't actually have a player yet.

I don't EVER wanna see that last one, because, I understand, it's really scraping the bottom of the barrel. III I have always been curious about. Is it a comedy or a straight flick, because it's about were-marsupials. Yeah, I'm about a year off from TRYING, operative word here, to acquire a region-free blu-ray. And, yes, region-free blu-ray players DO exist.

a way round the region thing for bluray is to get a bluray drive on your comp, they tend to be regionless and a damn sight cheaper than buying a player on it's own,III is a serious movie but takes the whole thing on a very different slant,it does still have the nuns though, which is the only real connection,i had the misfortune to see the last one and it is truly bad,but it is a sequel directly to 5 i think it is,the one in the castle >.< i know it's bad i can't remember but it's been a long time since i have seen them.

yes well, hmmm.... As we know I'm not into Blue-Ray either, but I do believe all art forms (including film) should strive for progress and I do count HD as progress. Plus how awesome was Vincent Price's 'House of Wax' That was in 3D. But I do appreciate your opinions, including those about the Blue Ray format. It's good to have someone who knows how to kickstart a good ol' fashioned film debate ;D

essentially, the whole blu ray thing is an attempt to make it even more possible to immerse yourself in the movie as the colour and shadow, well everything ,is meant to have more realistic tones,as for 3D while some classic movies it works, the whole mess of movies coming out in 3D now is just a sales gimic and it sucks, they seriously need to stop with the whole 3D thing until they can actually make a truly 3D screen

Used to have the howling set on VHS, but when I started moving my collection over to DVD, I only got the 1st film. I make an effort to avoid the rest of them.
Just think, in 20 or so years, DVDs will most likely be outmoded and we'll all be either getting our films on direct download and storing them on Harddrives, or they'll probably be sold on something similar to a memory stick which then copies the film to your player which holds hundreds of films. Though that is liable to enable pirating a little to easily, so they'll probably have it that you plug the stick into the machine (maybe with 10 or 20 ports so you can set up a selection all ready for watching. Yup, films on lollypop sticks!!

nah,it will be registration of the stick,to a machine and when you want to change the machine you have to let them know and a limited number of multiplays on other machines for if you take it to a friends, sort of like a monthly limit, annnd now i sound like a complete and utter geek..........

Well i see you point about blue ray, 3-d doesnt bother me as much as the reason why they do it. Consider me the old man that shakes his cane yelling at kids about their damn music and internet, to hard headed to move up with the times. I watch old movies on vcr's, prefer to drive classic vehicle over news one, and enjoy the sound of vinel records. I was born in the wrong genration.

Yup, films on lollypop sticks!! As long as I don't have to haul around 9 reels of 35mm film just to watch a movie at home! Things change, as they should. As for gimmicks, isn't color a gimmick, or widescreen? Isn't film itself little than a sideshow attraction gone mad? ;D I must admitt USB-filmsticks don't film my hearth with joy. I'd rather see some kind of YouTube'esque system. As long as it's a system that enables the artist to make some money so he can put food in his tummy. (and yes, Blu-Ray sucks )

I guess its all about personal preference, I think what got my attention with horror film was the creepy atmosphere and documentery look of vhs and older movies. To me it added a sense of realism to the film, no a days the high def is clearer than the human eye.
