I can't believe I forgot to mention these. Here's an update to the below news article: Synapse now hopes to have VAMPIRE CIRCUS out in December and TWINS OF EVIL in January, and it's reported that these region 1 transfers are supposed to put the U.K. ones to shame. Now, that's Synapse, not me, saying that. Just to be clear. No word on when HANDS OF THE RIPPER, or HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR series will be coming out. Bet on it for 2011, though. They're also working on a special uncut edition of THE DORM THAT DRIPPED BLOOD, but I have no interest in that title. Some of you might though. January release planned for that one, too. I think that's it for late breaking news, unless something new gets mentioned in the next few days, or hours. Now, I must hunt through your site for some werewolf threads I want to lend my two cents to. FANGORIA: www.fangoria.com/index.php?id=520:more-hammer-dvds-coming-from-synapse-films&option=com_content&catid=1:latest-news&Itemid=167Fans of Hammer Films’ 1970s outings will rejoice that DVD outfit Synapse Films has acquired the rights to four titles from the library of the classic British horror studio. Among them are three features that have never previously been available on optical disc in the U.S. Synapse’s Don May Jr. gave us the scoop that they’ve picked up Robert Young’s VAMPIRE CIRCUS, John Hough’s TWINS OF EVIL and Peter Sasdy’s HANDS OF THE RIPPER, along with the classic 13-episode TV series HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR. “We have new high-definition transfers of all three features,” May tells Fango. “Supplement producer Daniel Griffith is working with us on extras, including—so far—interviews with filmmaker and Hammer fan Joe Dante and FLESH AND BLOOD: THE HAMMER HERITAGE OF HORROR writer/director Ted Newsom. Other possible interviews and extras are in the works, including theatrical trailers and TV spots. It’s very possible we will be putting out the three features on Blu-ray as well. If we do, we’ll announce both the DVD and Blu-ray releases at the same time. All 13 episodes of HAMMER HOUSE OF HORROR will be released in a DVD boxed set. The plan is to have these available in third quarter 2010.” Keep your eyes here for details as they become available.

I was so hoping you were going to say Dracula, The Mummy and The Curse of Frankenstein were coming out on R2. Or even The Curse of the Werewolf. At the moment despite their fame and popularity, these important Hammer flicks are all either out of print in England or only available in hard to find or imported box-sets.

I tried to fit all the titles into the heading but they didn't all fit so I went with the vague heading, knowing it was gonna probably infer other titles than the actual ones. I'm from the U.S. so most of the news I gravitate towards is Region 1 encoded. That is, until I acquire a regionless blu-ray, then the overseas stuff will end up triggering my radar.
Wow, I'm actually shocked those flicks you mentioned are out of print in their home country. CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF is available on region 1, but it's in a pack with KISS OF THE VAMPIRE, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and other Hammer titles that escape me at the moment. I'm hoping to pick that set up at the end of the year.
Big fan of Oliver Reed's werewolf!

and region 2 does get better box art I've noticed this, too. Consider the new SPACE:1999 season one set coming out in blu-ray. Only. Region 2 has much better box art work. Why the hell is that? What's wrong with us Americans and DVD cover art?

Don't mention Space 1999, its one of the series I want to replace my old VHS to DVDs ones, but the price for the DVDs are rather expensive at the moment. I mean I replaced the whole of the star trek original series for the same price as they want for 1 season of Space 1999! Nearly bought the big box set for Hammer a few times, but for some reason they didn't put in all the films (there are a few box sets for Hammer, most having overlapping film choices). Though the one I was looking at I think did have the Hammer TV series included as well. Mind you, I've also considered picking up the boxsets that they've fetched out for individual actoers like Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, and grrr forgot his name . . . was in witchfinder general, Terrible Dr Pheobes, Edward Scissorhands . . . I hate it when I cannot remember a name.

The last member of the unholy trinity would be good old Vincent Price!
I think I've got Hammer covered quite well with my 3 sets-
'Hammer Horror Originals' (out of print)- Dracula, The Mummy, Curse of Frankenstein
'The Hammer Collection'- 21 discs including The Devil Rides Out, Plague of the Zombies, The Reptile, Blood From The Mummy's Tomb, various Dracula sequels, etc
'The Hammer Horror Series'- R1 set of 8 Universal/Hammer collaborations, most notable Curse of the Werewolf.
Not generally a big fan of box sets though, I would like to have Dracula, The Mummy and Curse of the Werewolf as individual DVDs should they ever appear.

boxsets are cool...
I got my Dracula, The Mummy and The Curse of Frankenstein discs from Germany. They are the same discs and prints used for the UK releases. The dvd sleeves are the same except for the german titles.

I wonder what the quality of the print will be, from what I've heard the R2 releases of 'Brides of Dracula' & 'Evil of Frankenstein' are crap.
