Heard talks that they are making a prequal to the Underworld Films.
In an interview (pulled from Wikipedia):
In a June 2006 interview, Wiseman said, "The third film is going to be a prequel. It will be the origin story and we find out things we didn't know about Lucian; he'll have a much bigger part in it. It will be about the creation [of the races] and what started the war. It will be a period piece."
The director also shared, "In terms of the writing, a lot of the writing has been done. We've been developing Underworld 3 for a while. I won't be directing Underworld 3; I'm just going to be producing and writing."
When asked if Kate Beckinsale would reprise her role as Selene in the prequel, Wiseman said, "It will be in the time period before, but it will overlap into the creation of her as well. We're in the process of seeing how far we go with that."
The actor Michael Sheen, who portrays Lucian in the film series, expressed interest in being part of the prequel.

You know it was ages before i realised that it was Michael Sheen playing Lucien, i really like him as an actor. I'd be well up for this movie if it does get made. I always thought Lucien wasn't used enough in the movies.

Underworld 3 is on! It's going to start filmimg next year in New Zealand. Directed by Patrick Tatopoulos (fx guy from the first 2) and is called Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans. The good news is it sounds very much centred around the werewolves this time! Bill Nighy and Michael Sheen are reprising their roles, no Beckinsale cos her character wasn't born yet.

Not having Kate stinks, but Rhona Mitra will be in it. Works for me.

Can't wait. I guess if they're filming next year we're up for a 2009 release if we keep our claws crossed!

More news on Underworld 3.... It's going to be a cinema release, not DTV. Really lookin forward to this one now......
'Here's what Rosenberg had to say about UNDERWORLD 3: RISE OF THE LYCANS: …remember in the first one Michael Sheen’s wife Sonia was killed by Bill Nye—by Victor and that was his daughter. That was the back-story for Michael Sheen. Obviously this is how they meet and Michael Sheen becomes the leader of the werewolves. This is told from the werewolf’s perspective, not the vampire’s. It’s their story and their battle with Victor. '
(Think he means Bill Nighy by the way, not Bill Nye the Science Guy)

I loved the first two movies, even though the focus seemed to be more on the vampire side of things. So I am very happy to learn of the subtitle, meaning there will be more werewolf action in this one. ;D

A bit of news on the underworld prequal: “We can confirm that the production values of sets and costumes are extremely high, the story is bold and the pedigree is pure,” “The sets are immense… Cool things to get excited about are new and sexy vampire armor, Mitra in kickass form, big battles and a bold and brutal style to the film that pays homage to the original flicks, but takes the Underworld saga into new territory.” Beckinsale of course is not in it, but Rhona Mitra is. Between this and the Wolf Man I'm pretty excited/impatient!

I've loved Rhona Mitra for a long time. I hope "Doomsday" and this get her plenty more hot butt-kicking roles.

Isn't Rhona darked haired? And correct me if i'm wrong but in the flashback scene in the first movie Sonya was very definately blonde? Not that it matters that much. I'm just glad this movie is actually going somewhere. I want to see more of Lucien!
