I’m redefining 'going offtopic' with this thread...what do you kids think of Jean Paul Belmondo?
For those of you who've never heard of Belmondo (and there are plenty of folks who haven't) Belmondo is a french actor who became superduper famous after appearing in several films by Jean Luc Goddard, the most notable of which is the arthouse essential 'A Bout de Souffle' or 'Breathless'.
In the late 50s/early 60s he was one of the biggest name in French art cinema, but the films I've become really fond of are the ones he started making in the late 60s. He made a very successful switch to commercial films and appeared in tons of super awesome action, crime and adventurous comedy films, all of them with a distinctly European feel. You know, leather jackets, turtlenecks, cicars, wakka-wakka guitars on the soundtrack.
A friend of mine got me to watch some of his films early this year and now I’m hooked! This guy is sooooooo cool. Admittedly some of them are hit and miss, but when you get your hands on a good one…oh boy. Great action sequences, plenty of humor and he does all of his own stunts. And I don’t mean ‘I’m-Pierce Brosnan-and-I-don’t-do-all-of-my-own-stunts’, you can see Jean Paul crashing cars, falling through windows, jumping off trains in slow-motion. It’s him all right!
Enough with the ranting – Let’s watch some Belmondo!
Peur sur la Ville (Fear in the City - 1975) which I haven’t seen yet.
Le Solitaire (The Loner - 1987) which I watched last night and forced me to share the awesome with you.
I'm sorry I made you guys read this...
