Davros is the creator of the Daleks. Infact he modelled the Type 2 Travel machine - ie Daleks - on his lifesupport chair.
As for his collection - that I don't know about, maybe be collected fungus?

I was hoping he'd have shown up in the first one, but they used the emporer dalek instead.
Then I was hoping he'd be in the second series, but they used thousands of daleks instead.
Long wait for the next sesson, as their having a year off before the next one. grrrr. Probably to give torchwood more of an outing for it's 2nd sesson.
