Inspired by Marcus, one (or more) best werewolf movie of each decade for an imaginary DVD boxed set in celebration of the centennial of the genre. 1910s The Werewolf (1913) Never saw it but being the only one, it must be the best. Not to mention that it is the first ever and deserves a place of honor. 1920s ? (Have not seen any) 1930s The Werewolf of London (1935) 1940s The Wolfman (1941) 1950s The Werewolf (1956) 1960s Curse of the Werewolf (1961) 1970s The Werewolf of Washington (1973) A guilty pleasure of mine 1980s Tie The Howling (1981) An American Werewolf in London (1981) The Company of Wolves (1984) 1990s Wolf (1994) 2000s Tie Ginger Snaps (2000) (Honorable mention to the sequels) Dog Soldiers (2002) 2010s The Wolfman (2010) What does the boxed set in your head look like?

I think you pretty much covered it there. For 70's I might go for Legend of the Werewolf though if for no other reason than the late great Peter Cushing is in it. Maybe even The Beast Must Die for the same reason and cuz that poor werewolf i.e. a dog in a woolly coat just makes me chuckle. Also for 2010's I have a soft spot for Spanish comedy/horror Attack of the Werewolves. It's very silly but the werewolves are great!

I had forgotten Legend of the Werewolf. That is the one where we see through the werewolf's eyes via a red filter? Maybe I got that mixed up with Wolfen for that reason. Wolfen was a not-a-werewolf movie although the idea of lycanthropy was a sub-plot. Come to think of it so was the She-Wolf of London (the old movie not the TV series).
You are right. Legend of the Werewolf was not bad and ought to be mentioned. But all in all the 1970s were slim pickings for top notch werewolf movies.

I had forgotten Legend of the Werewolf. That is the one where we see through the werewolf's eyes via a red filter? That's the one. It's basically a cheap remake of Curse by Hammer's then rival British horror studio Tyburn. It's not brilliant but I actually like the werewolf look (scared the crap out of me as a kid) plus the fact that Cushing (and Ron Moody) lend it an air of quality. But yeah, the 70's were pretty thin for great werewolf flicks.

Very nice list! "Wolf Blood: A Tale of the Forest" would probably be the best choice for the 1920s. For the 1950s I would personally go with "I Was A Teenage Werewolf", and for the 70s I would probably include a Paul Naschy movie since he deserves at least one movie on the list ... maybe "La Noche de Walpurgis." As for the 90s, it's a close tie for me between "Bad Moon" and "Wolf" ...

Too many interruptions right now. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKwxJF365gII saw Teenage Werewolf in the movies. It was on a double bill with Invasion of the Saucer Men, an intentionally hilarious take on the topic. Yes Teenage was a good one and deserves to be on the list. I somehow blanked out Bad Moon. GOT to be on the list. Never saw Walpurgis Night. Sounds interesting. en.wikipedia.og/wiki/La_Noche_de_Walpurgis

So I watched Wolf Blood (1925). Interesting enough although I could have used a little less back story and more wolfery. But as the oldest surviving werewolf movie it deserves a place of honor.

1950s The Werewolf (1956) I Was A Teenage Werewolf (1957)
1960s Curse of the Werewolf (1961)
1970s The Werewolf of Washington (1973) Legend of the Werewolf (1975)

Very nice list.
I love Legend of the Werewolf. I can remember having to stay up until the early hours of the morning so that i could record it onto VHS!
For the 2010's i'd personally go with Attack of the Werewolves (2012). It's a great film and i enjoyed it so much more than The Wolfman.

Oops! darkwolfavenged mentioned Attack of the Werewolves and I forgot to put it on the list. The list has been updated to include it. I never saw it but the clip I posted someplace upstream is terrific. Edit: Here it is again. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuHyOb78P4UThe Wolfman (2010) was not bad, a reasonable attempt to build on the 1941 original, if not always fully successful. But I have this problem with extended CGI sequences (the werewolf on werewolf fight) that seem to serve little purpose but are expected by today's audiences.

It is an excellent movie. And no CGI which was another plus for it
