Some favorites of mine, chronological order to avoid having to choose which is best
Werewolf of London 1935
Tibetan moon flower that can prevent transformation and the intrigue to get it.
Each time the afflicted man becomes a werewolf, he is more beastly. Nice touch.
The Wolf Man 1941
A genuine classic, the old school man/wolf filled with dread over what he becomes.
The supernatural flavoring that gives this movie its special feeling has for the most part been lost in later years.
Curse of the Werewolf 1961
The only Hammer werewolf movie and it takes its time getting to that point but Terence Fisher delivers plenty of good stuff along the way, as usual. And when it does finally get hairy, it does not fail to deliver and you realize there was good reason for the lengthy setup.
Wolfen 1981
Not really a werewolf movie although that is a subtext. But a great ride nonetheless. And decidedly different than what one expects.
The Howling 1981
A modern werewolf movie, deliciously constructed and with a very odd sense of humor. But flawed IMO by the too easy killing of the beasts.
An American Werewolf in London 1981
The third entry in that annus mirabilis.
Just about as good as it gets. Nuff said.
Bad Moon 1996
Go Thor!
Ginger Snaps trilogy 2000-2004
Classic werewolf stories with unique spins.
LOVE watching Emily Perkins face!
Dog Soldiers 2002
Action! Gore! Firepower!
And don’t forget twists.
Favorite line: I hope you get diarrhea! (Talk about macho)
The Wolfman 2010
For the most part quite good, sufficiently different from and more elaborate than the 1941 original to be interesting. I especially loved the lecture hall scene.
But that CGI fest just blew it for me. Not that it was rather poorly done, although that is true IMO. It just did not
belong in the movie. For me, it destroyed suspension of disbelief by suddenly making it a different kind of movie.
My $0.02 anyway.
