The 1972 TV movie was discussed briefly in a another thread not long ago. Today it was on the Comet cable TV channel, which specializes in science fiction and horror. I decided to skip the commercials and time editing and watched it instead on Prime. Even after nearly a half century of subsequent werewolf movies, it still held up pretty well. There is not a whole lot of werewolf action on screen until later in the movie and the makeup is rather minimalist. But the actors are fun to watch especially Barbara Rush who fleshes out her character quite nicely and mostly owns the movie. David Janssen does a credible job as the sheriff. And Geoffrey Lewis does his always enjoyable over the top act once again. A theme helping to drive the plot development is the huge social gap between the aristocratic original settler family on the island in the bayou, huge mansion and all, and the majority who live rather less well, sometimes in houses not much better than shacks. Pickups, shotguns and hunting dogs are all very much in evidence. Another interesting theme is whether lycanthropy is a disease controllable by medication or is inherently supernatural. No resolution to that one.

Yep, fond memories of this one. It and Death Moon helped fuel my young self's werewolf obsession. Seems like it's also pretty common on cheap DVDs. (Death Moon isn't so readily available outside of YouTube: youtu.be/LL0rCYGun80)
