That's true, I'd forgotten about that one! There were some pretty cool effects in Van Helsing, some people have a problem with CG but when it's of that kind of quality I don't mind it at all. Skin was always a big part of old werewolf myths and legends. Becoming a werewolf generally involved wearing some kind of wolf pelt over your own skin, so the shredding of the skin makes sense in that context as well.

I would think that, if a person changes through wearing wolf skin, the transformation would be based around the wolf skin infusing itself into the human body and perhaps spreading across it.

The cat people employed something similar didn't they? When Irena transformed her skin split and the panther emerged form inside. Both were good effects but in prefer AWWIL type transformations.

Never liked the ears on the Van Helsing werewolves (especially the 2nd werewolf's)
The transformation was good though, if a little silly when he rolled up the wall. Never realised werewolves had antigravity powers!!!
Must admit I also rather like the splitting out of the skin style transormations from cat people and company of wolves. Is it my mind playing tricks or didn't Ginger in Ginger snaps at one point shrug off a lair of skin from her back? May be mixing that up though.
As long as it's done good, and doesn't look really fake, I think I like most transformation techniques. It's when they try to do something they just don't have the money to pull off that makes a transformation cringe worthy.

It was near the end I think, where they were hidng in the cupboard . . . could have been her clothes thinking about it. I can just see an image in my head of her on all fours, with something sliding off her back and sides (could sware it's skin coloured) leaving behind a slightly fury wet surface.
May have to go watch it to see how wrong I am.

They showed clips of her spitting up blood and her face getting puffy, and there was a shot of her back, with a rigid spine, ripping through her shirt. I don't think it was furry, thought, it was all pale and sweaty.

I wasn't too keen on the 2nd one, not sure what it was about it but it just didn't strike the same cord for me. I did like the 3rd one though.

I think the 2nd one is the worst out of the set of 3. I didn't like the mutation look they gave Bridget, compared to the makeup they put Ginger in during the first film.
Wish they'd shown the relationship between the sisters stronger in the 3rd one. Instead of relying on people having seen the 1st one so know that they have a strong bond.

I guess I didn't notice, since I saw the first one, but I thought their relationship seemed strong enough.
