Just read a short piece on the BBC website that the they are bringing all the Hammer Horror classics back to the big screen which means they should be showing the 1961 classic Curse of the Werewolf! Here's the article: news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/6644203.stmWith any luck the film magazines should soon pick up the news and give us further information.

John de Mol is exactly the kind of guy who would know how to pump a load of shit into a good tradition, I know because if here, in the Netherlands, there is crap on TV there is a 65 % chance he produced it. Infact, a good freind of mine works for the guy, behind the scenes of the truly horrid reality show "De Gouden Kooi".
I think it is safe to say that when de Mol begins meddling in the House that Hammer made, the movies that come out of it will be far from classic.

Well, it did say de Mol now ownes the "Hammer Catalogue"...although I wonder what that means. As far as the origionals are concerend...it's unlikely there will be changes in DVD releases and TV showings. Also I think they only have part of the entire Hammer stable since the rights are distributed over several companies. example:
Horror of Dracula: owned by Warner Brothers Brides of Dracula: owned by Universal Dracula: Prince of Darkness: owned independent rights owner(s) Dracula has risen from the Grave: owned by Warner Brothers Taste the Blood of Dracula: owned by Warner Brothers Scars of Dracula: owned by independent rights owner(s) Dracula AD 1972: owned by Warner Brothers Satanis Rites of Dracula: public domain [Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires: owned by independent rights owner(s)]
If I am correct, John de Mol now owens the right to the films which previously did not belong to mayor studios/distributors.

More information here: www.variety.com/article/VR1117964712.html?categoryid=13&cs=1 De Mol and his group now own the rights to over 300 Hammer films, and are planning to bring the company back into production and put out two or three horror films a year, as well as television projects such as a new Hammer House of Horror type series in the UK. They're expected to announce their first projects at the Cannes Film Festival, which begins next Wednesday.

The thing is, this is one of those projects with so much potential....and it's so easy to screw up. And although I have confidence in young and fresh production teams, and the New Hammers love for the good old days, I am certain de Mol will push things the other way. As with everything, this man is not interrested in making TV, Film, or entertainment, but money....

Yeah, although this does seem like a risky investment for a guy like de Mol. Maybe he is a genuine fan of old Hammer. Or maybe he's just feeling particularly affluent because his Man United team have just won the league. He has at least $50 million to throw away anyhoo.

Wonder if they'll ask Christopher Lee to appear in one!! Wonder if he'd be interested?

On the news they mentioned he bought a part of some Spanish communications company, looks like Noel is right about the big bucks. It would be REALLY cool if Christopher Lee starred in these films, although I doubt he has any personal interest. With constant rumors that Hammer would be revived he was infact once asked wheter he would return if the started remaking these things, to which his anwser was no believing Hammer didn't need ressurecting. How right he is. However, Lee is ofcourse human, and humans have a this nasty habbit of listening to money, and something Johnny boy has plenty of is (you geussed it) money! Also, it would be really cool if Tim Burton would direct some of these, and Lee has had a good working relationship with him so far. I even think if Tim Burton would ask Lee to play Dracula, he would do it.

It was just on again, John de Mol and an Italian associate sold Endemol around 2002 for 5 million euros , and bought it back for 2 million. That's 3 million profit! The man's insane!

Magic!
