I was hanging out at the Werewolf Cafe forums (www.werewolfcafe.com) and I saw a thread about a show called "The Dresden Files." You've probably heard of it; it's a new Sci-Fi Channel show about a professional detective/wizard who goes after paranormal stuff. It's based on a series of books I almost got interested in a few years ago.
The second book in the series, "Fool Moon," is all about werewolves. The third episode of the series, according to TV.com, is entitled "Hair of the Dog." That might be something. I doubt the series is going in order of the books, of course.
I'm watching the second episode now. Fortunately, I found out about the show half an hour before the encore of the first episode, so I'm caught up already. I like it.

Ooo I've been meaning to check that one out. Didn't realise it would feature werewolves. Here's the plot outline for "Hair of the Dog":
"After a series of ritualistic murders, someone mentions the word "werewolf" so Harry, of course, gets dragged in. Thing is, it looks like the lycanthropes aren't the killers, they're the victims."

Ah, I did not know that they would be the "victims." I did read a sentence-long outline on the TV Guide website about that episode, though. It should be airing a week from Sunday.
At first, I was wondering why they'd aired the first two episodes, then skipped a week before airing the third (airdate is the 11th, at least for the U.S.). Then I remembered that big football game everybody loves so much...
Anyway, I'll hopefully record it and try to get some clips to share if no one else can see it. I don't know when or where it airs in any other country outside of the States.

I just watched the first couple episodes. Pretty good, it's kinda hard to tell at this point. It might grow on me like Supernatural. Roll on February 11th!

And now I've finished watching "Hair of the Dog." It started confusing, then made sense, then got confusing again.
It deals with Dresden investigating a murder that he finds involved werewolves. When questioning the friend of the victim, he's arrested by FBI members, and the friend is bitten by the werewolf murderess.
Spoiler Alert! It turns out that the FBI agent and the werewolf are together. The werewolf is biting people, waiting for the curse to take effect, and then killing them. If nine are killed, she is freed from the curse. The woman she bit is supposed to be number nine.
Dresden escapes from jail, and the woman (I'm not doing well with names here) escapes her captivity and finds him. The curse is making her feel like killing, but Dresden wants her to fight it. The couple shows up, and Dresden locks his new girlfriend away for safety. The werewolf lady comes after her. Dresden takes care of her boyfriend and tries to kill her with a gun, but it doesn't work.
There's a scene of his girlfriend changing. The werewolf has Dresden cornered. Another werewolf comes up from behind her. She turns around and slashes its throat out. Turns out it was her boyfriend...he was a werewolf, too. He dies, she's cured (but sad). Dresden's girl managed to fight off the change. SWERVE!
So, Dresden's girl decides to go off on her own out into the wilderness to deal with her problems alone. Bob, the ghost, says she'll be back. Dresden says maybe...or maybe she'll slip up and he'll have to hunt her down and kill her.
Okay, I think I summed it up all right. The werewolves were CGI, and not quite as good as the one on "Doctor Who." They were a little better than the ones in "Darkwolf," though. I guess it is just a TV show, so I can be a little forgiving. Still, they looked cartoonish, like they were ghosts or something. When Dresden's girl started to change, she got yellow eyes, claws and fangs. Then her face started to morph into gray and her nose changed shape. Then it cut away and she was back to normal when we saw her again. Meanwhile, when the other woman changed back, the werewolf body just sort of fell off her like it had been a magic costume.
Nevertheless, I liked the episode for the story. I'm sure Dresden's girl will be back, provided the series is renewed for another season. If it is, it's possible that they could get a better budget and make a better werewolf. I can always hope and dream.

Yeah, that's a good summary of the episode. Except from what I remember the boyfriend was bitten by the FBI lady in that final battle or at some other point in the episode, which is why he was also a werewolf.
I agree the CG werewolves were somewhere inbetween DarkWolf and Doctor Who. I thought the Doctor Who werewolf was a lot better, though. Others have been critical of it, but to me that was a beautiful piece of CG. The Dresden werewolves kind of pale in comparison. These were closer to those weird were-beasties from that episode of "Charmed".

I got confused. I agree. Maybe if and when the girl returns, they'll have better effects. I can hope.

Saw it on Sky One the other night and really enjoyed it. CGI wasn't as good as Dr Who but i guess the budget wasn't great.
Now i thought the boyfriend sustained his first injury at the beginning of the show when the first victim took a swipe at him before the titles starting rolling. Then when he took the other girl into the forest to kill her she took a swipe at him as well cos he told his girlfriend he was okay. When did his girlfriend get him? I was cooking pizza at the time so i must have missed it!

Hmm, I think you may be right. I thought she attacked him at some point in that final battle. Maybe I was too distracted by the dodgy CG.

The 1st female werewolf definately got him at the beginning. I have to say i have become quite a fan of this series since seeing this episode. It's a shame that the werewolf effects were so bad cos some of the other effects in the series have been quite good.
