I've been meaning to talk about this for a while, but a couple months ago, I finally found the two-disc, six-film DVD set called "Beastly Butchers" when I was in Kansas. It features all low-budget movies, one of which is "The Lunar Pack." It's basically three short films about werewolves joined together by a hostess who parodies Elvira and Vampira. She's called Mistress Misty, and she does a pretty good job.
The first short film is called "Dark Rose: 700 Year Itch." A vampire hunter who also happens to be a werewolf fights a vampire. The acting is decent, the fight is pretty well choreographed for a low-bidget film. There's one instance where a line ("the moon won't save you") is repeated and sounds worse for it. Also, they obviously cut back on the werewolf make-up:
Note that the face is wolf-like, but the hand is obviously human. So was the rest of her body. Probably shouldn't have had her wearing a shirt that exposed her belly. Anyway, this is my least favorite of the three, though it could be a good teaser for a full movie about the character.
Next is "Sheep's Clothing," probably my favorite of the three. It's black and white and features a detective following a woman whose husband thinks is cheating on him. But, no, she's just a werewolf talking with a local priest about a cure. The narration is solid, and the acting's not bad at all. The shotgun looks fake, though. There's an attempt at a transformation scene, and then there's this:
And guess what? No body make-up, just the head. And it's not a bad head, but the fact that it's attached to a perfectly human body makes it seem very unprofessional.
Finally, we have the longest film, "Crying Wolf." A guy and girl are in the forest one night, and the girl gets killed while the guy gets bitten. A month later, the guy meets with the sheriff, who obviously thinks he did it. Wait, no he doesn't...he's just covering up. In fact, he's the werewolf who killed the girl. And now that the guy is also a werewolf, he needs to kill him, too.
Well, it looks pretty amateur, but at least this werewolf has the body of a werewolf. So, the werewolves fight, and the guy's cousin saves him and takes him out to eat.
Okay, now that's silly-looking.
So, my final thought is that I liked it, it was cheap, but I don't know if you really want to go out of your way to see it. If you're really interested, though, you can go to the website: www.hocfocprod.com/Cryingwolf.htm
There's a link there that will take you to a site where you can download the film for about $10 USD. Easier than having it shipped from far away.
