As it's been so long since I posted more to the above, and that I just don't have the time these days to sit down and type up the story. I'll just give the overview rather than trying to keep it going (just incase anyone is interested)
HISTORY TO THE STORY PLOT
The last of the werewolves lived in the black forest at the beginning of the 1900s. Minding their own business, eating the odd traveller.
Than the 1st world war came to Europe, and they ended up involved in fighting for their homes against the german advances. Viewed as rebles or "freedom fighters" they were hunted down by the german war machine and destroyed, with only a few reports as to their true nature, which were dismissed as insanities or made up by those in power.
During the 2nd world war, when Hitlar sent out his special investigators and archeologists to "prove" his propaganda, traces of the old legends of the area filtered back to the right ears, and interested was perked. Talks of supersoldiers, shock troops, and more were entertained, especially when the earlier reports were discovered in old archieves.
So they began to investigate and experimant. They discover about the werewolf bloodline, and through experimentation discover it's an inherrited trait, not some mystic curse. They being compling lists - disguised under other purposes, trying to identify anyone that may have a trace of that particular bloodline. Each time they discover someone they arrest and experiment on them. But are always met with failure due to current technological and scientific understanding.
As the war went against Germany, the experiments and research ended giving way to other more practical needs of the war. The lab and notes were sealed away and forgotten about as just another failure.
But, after the war, a few of the original scientists survived and avoided the trials. Thus the story of those tests survived. One of the surviving scientists managed to make a new life, one where he gathered power and wealth due to his medical knowledge. This he passed on to his son, who grew an interested in his fathers early works in the war, and the idea of living werewolves captured his imagination.
When his father died, he took his wealth and the stories he'd been told. Found the old lab and what was left of the notes. From here he begain his own experiements. Progessing far beyond his father due to modern technologies and breakthroughs in medical understanding.
He set up an organisation who's sole real purpose was to breed back the bloodlines until a full werewolf could be birthed.
Today, this organisation is now run by a board, who have not only worked on the breeding programs but also experimented with genetic manipulations, and retroviruses, and all the other methods that todays science can provide.
They now know, that they need both a particular parasitical like varius as well as those people possessing a key and unique mutation in their genetic code to gain their desired results. They also now neither of these two parts can be synthisised but the virus was innert until it comes into contact with the mutation, and itself mutates, which some how also triggers the dna mutation to start replicating itself throughout the host.
The upshot of this was, they had to iinterbreed those with the trace lineage from the original bloodline to try to strengthen that mutation back into what the central bloodline had.
They also discovered that by using certain drugs, they could cause the virus to concentrate within the heart tisue of the host thus making the cells of the heart have a great mutation trigger.
They also found if they feed the hearts to the others than this would also "kick start" them further along than the previous host. (Initially it would take a year or more for the early "generation of subjects" to manifest enough virus bonding to tissue for their hearts to be able to function as this kickstart.
Other things they discovered was that the virus responded to increases of the host's emotional state, especially the base feelings which trigger the greatest physiological responses. such as anger.
They tried to inject the host with adrenaline and other compounds to simulate this state, but after several "generations" they discovered the mutation and virus had made the host almost impervious to such outside influences and only their natural chemical productions would help.
After a sever incident where several subjects managed to break loose and rampage, they changed their tact from using anger and pain to increase the production in the hearts to other methods which would not cause the host to react in such hostile ways.
So that should hopefully explain the background and the method I was using of how werewolves worked in the story.
It was bugging me that I'd not got to that part of the explanation in the story, and wanted to share it to see what people thought, but new I'd not have the time to actually continue the story to the point where this information would have been discovered.
