Shaun of the Dead was awesome. Ditto Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness. The first Evil Dead was nowhere near as cool as the sequels, just bloody. It was scary, though.
Meanwhile, I only saw maybe a third of the original Dawn of the Dead. The newer one was good, but nothing I need to own. Same with Day of the Dead. 28 Days Later was okay, but it kind of stopped being a zombie movie and became a hostage escape movie.
That's all the zombie movies I can think of that I've seen...

I think what put me off Evil Dead 3 was the fact it was so different from the first 2. The whole style and special effects were different. Which, to me, made it jar against the first two. As a stand alone film it was funny, and I liked it. But not as a sequal to the first two. If you listen to the makers of 28 days, than it's not a zombie film. But if you listen to everyone else it is

I saw the first evil dead film when i was just a wee kiddie, for some reason my parents thought it was a good idea despite my terrified reaction to the first Critter film! I was completely scared shitless! But it's one i've come to love, although the second is my favourite!
I loved Shaun of the Dead but hated 28 Days Later, was so bored during that!

I'm a massive Romero fan so I love all his Dead films and most of his others - especially Martin & The Crazies. His stuff is great because are more than just horror movies; they have plenty of subtext. Can't wait for Diary of the Dead. I'm also partial to a bit of class Italian gore from the maestro, Lucio Fulci in Zombie: Flesh Eaters, City of the Living Dead & The Beyond.
Great zombie films are still being made. Shame great werewolf films don't seem to be so forthcoming. Last great werewolf film was arguably Ginger Snaps and its first sequel. Here's hoping for The Wolf Man.
Anyway, my 10 fave zombie flcks are:
1. Dawn of the Dead (1978) 2. Night of the Living Dead (1968) 3. Day of the Dead (1985) 4. Land of the Dead 5. Zombie: Flesh Eaters 6. The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue 7. Shaun of the Dead 8. City of the Living Dead 9. Return of the Living Dead 10. Dawn of the Dead (remake)

I agree with you on your whole list with one exception. The Dawn remake. Sure it was pretty good (the uncut version that is) But the Night remake was much better.

I'm not either Noel. When i was younger, bout 8 or 9, i read the novelisation which i found in my mum's room. I didn't even know it was a film and the book terrified me! Since then i've found Zombie movies just a little off putting. But then again i do enjoy them now.

I liked resident evil as a zombie film. (wasn't as keen on the sequal, though the 3rd film may be interesting).
I also think it's one of the best video game to Film conversations that's been done.

The old animated film for Street Fighter is much much better than the Van Dam one.
I didn't like House of the Dead. Not sure exactly why. Nothing I could be specific about. Maybe I was in the wrong mood when I watched it.

House of the Dead was nothing special, i thought it could have been a lot better. There's a sequel apparently but i've not seen it.

I wouldnt go as far as calling resident evil a movie based on a game. I mean, even the super mario movie kept something from the game =P

The Night remake was quite good, but I really enjoyed the Dawn remake. I think the first 10 mins are simply amazing and that Zack Snyder did a hell of a job in putting a different spin on Romero's concept and in making a gritty, brutal horror film. Also, as a fan of Johnny Cash, any film that uses 'The Man Comes Around' as a main title has sold me.

But that is the main thing that is wrong with the remake. The original was a comedy. This one was a gritty horror movie. They completely missed the point.

The original is not a comedy. It does have humour, but it's a horror/adventure film with elements of satire and social commentary. The remake just takes the basic concept of zombies and survivors in a mall and makes it in to a really good, gritty horror thriller. The satire and social commentary is missing, but it's extremely well made with a really good cast. It's not trying to be anything greater than what it is, which is fine.
