It premiered on the Sci-Fi channel last Sunday. It was pretty disappointing. Not a whole lot of actual werewolf action, though the werewolf did look pretty cool. It was also a blatant rip-off of the 80's Vampire classic Fright Night. It had it's moments, but it was overall below average. The site should update it's status, as it's been finished and released on television already, right now it's in the upcoming movies area, I think.

Never Cry Werewolf was great. It wasn't theater worthy, certainly, but it I thought it was very well-done for a made-for-TV/DVD movie. So what if it was a redux of Fright Night? That was a fine film that was worthy of an homage. Never Cry Werewolf had enough originality to stand on its own. There's nothing new under the sun, anyway. I can't wait for the DVD.

There's a difference between paying homage and stealing the entire plot of a movie, and even taking elements of that movies plot structure and re-doing entire scenes. It was a rip-off. That's not enough for me to dislike a movie, some rip-off's are very fun. There was some originality. I've never seen that flesh-strap werewolf transformation thing in a movie before, nor have I seen a werewolf with a demonic hellhound for a pet. I'd probably give it a 4/10. It was above average for an independent, direct to DVD/Sci-fi channel werewolf flick, and entertaining at times, but not a very good movie.

Then we shall differ on opinions. I give it 7.5/10 at the very least. Four out of five stars. A tomato instead of a splat. One and three quarter thumbs up.

It's not, though. There, we agree on something. Werewolf, I think you might like it. Judging by what little I know about you...

Arizona Werewolf is more commonly known as Werewolf. It's the one with Joe Estevez where they dig up a werewolf skeleton and people get scratched by it and become werewolves. I actually posted the MST3K version on the board for download about a year ago.

To try to avoid confusion with the other movies/TV show called Werewolf.

Just watched Never Cry Werewolf online and actually kinda liked it, despite the fact that it is indeed a carbon copy of Fright Night. For a made-for-tv movie, especially one on the sci fi channel, I was impressed. Maybe they should have tried to get the rights to call it Fright Night 3? After all, the first one was about a vampire, the second one had a vampire and a werewolf, and this one was about a werewolf, and followed the plot of the first one...

I think they should have had Fright Night playing in the background on a TV somewhere in the film.
You know, one difference between the two is that Fright Night didn't involve the villain trying to seduce the hero into being his mate. Considering the hero was a pre-teen child, that would have been quite disturbing...
