Exactly. Why remake it? What's wrong with An American Werewolf in Tokyo? Venice? Cairo? The possibilities are almost literally endless.

Dude, I would so love to see AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN TOKYO. That sounds like it could be so great.

An American Werewolf in Tokyo sounds much more exciting than An American Werewolf in Russia, or Costa Rica.
Werewolves and neon lights.

The original book was kind of crap. The movie was way better. I haven't read the book for years so don't remember how well it is written. I agree that the movie of The Howling is fab, however I do personally prefer the original story of the book...about the legend of the old Bulgarian village of Dradja that was destroyed and then surviviors relocated to the US to the new small and isolated Californian town of Drago. It's the usual tale of an outsider coming in to a small, weird community and discovering its secrets and causing trouble for the locals, but I remember the wolves being more wolflike in the book, and I'd love to see a really good version of this story if they do another Howling film. As for AAWWIL - I LOVE that idea of a remake/sequel set in Tokyo. The Japanese must have their own versions of the werewolf legend, which could be put to good use. Get Takashi Miike to write and direct. Now THAT would be one weird and disturbing werewolf movie. Give a whole new look and feel to the genre

The general mythology was fine (and I'm glad they managed to get some of it in the later films) but the writing and some of plot points really needed another editing pass.
The movie tightened things up quite a bit.

We could flip the coin completely and go for An English Werewolf in LA or New York or somewhere?

Darkwolfavenged, I don't think I'd want to see a disturbing, Miike-style werewolf movie. I prefer werewolves in action-based horror, not sick-to-my-stomach horror. Actually, I don't think I like the latter at all.
From what I've read, the Japanese have were-fox legends, but I don't think they parallel the western werewolf legends very often. Foxes aren't usually considered ferocious mankillers, but clever thieves. Now, in Africa, I believe there are were-leopard legends, and were-tiger ones in India.
AN ENGLISH WEREWOLF IN NEW YORK would be sweet, too. Or L.A., or Chicago...maybe Vegas? That could be a trip.

I love Miike but I don't think the world is ready for him to do a werewolf movie! I reckon Ryuhei Kitamura (Versus) would do a good job tho. Well American Werewolf in Tokyo has a lot of positive response, maybe we should knock together a script and pitch it to Landis! I like the flip-around idea as well. Why not keep it simple... A London Werewolf in America?

well, with the flip, you could do have it that it's the son of David and the nurse. Who goes back to america on his 18th to look up his fathers family. Of course he's inherrited the lycanthrope who's symptoms manifest due to an event at the start of the film.

Wouldn't it be "A Londonian Werewolf in America"? Or is that not a word? Maybe "A London-Based Werewolf in America." Yeah, that'll sell.

AN ENGLISH WEREWOLF IN NEW YORK would be sweet, too. Or L.A., or Chicago...maybe Vegas? That could be a trip. I know, lets set in in Vegas and see if Grissom and the team can solve the crime.!
