Sadly the mini-series adaptation of awesome Stephen King/Peter Straub fantasy-horror-adventure-epic 'The Talisman' has been scrapped. Luckily, some guy called Mathieu Ratthe reeally wants to make a movie of it, and has filmed a demo scene to show producers. He's got my vote... www.joblo.com/video/arrow/player.php?video=TALISMANThere's a brief glimpse of a coupla human form werewolves in the scene. The book has lots of great werewolf action and I reccomend it to anyone who doesn't mind reaally long books.

It didn't look bad at all. I've never read the Talisman, not sure why cos i'm a huge King fan. perhaps i didn't think it was a horror novel and i've tended to stay away from his sci-fi ones. I will definately look this book up.

The only reason to not read Talisman is that it's very long. It's kind of odd, in that it reads almost like a children's adventure story but with some mature concepts and gory violence. The best bit by far is the middle segment out of three (I think), when the hero's buddy, an easy going, friendly and slightly retarded werewolf, finally shows his wolf side...

It's not really a sci-fi novel. It's a fantasy story with horror elements. The sequel, BLACK HOUSE, is more of a horror novel with fantasy elements. Or maybe a detective novel with horror elements and a modicum of fantasy. BLACK HOUSE has no werewolves, btw. But it's pretty good, especially if you're reading the DARK TOWER series.

Note to self: read Black House
I'll have to find a copy of Talisman. I never got around to reading it and I've read most of King's works, not so much of Straub I only read Shadowland and Floating Dragon.

I've always been a huge King fan but I've only just read the Dark Tower books. I liked parts of them but found the last book massively dissapointing. But I do love how it ties everything he's done together, I love the connections in King's books. Gonna get Black House from the library today!

I liked the DARK TOWER books (except WIZARD AND GLASS, which was all flashback), and I loved the ending of the last one so much. It was perfect.
I've not read any of Peter Straub's other works. Supposedly, they're considering a third book in the TALISMAN/BLACK HOUSE series, which I would guess involves Jack living in the Territories.

I haven't read either author. Though I did have an audio cassette of Stephen King reading his 1st dark tower novel. Don't think I ever finished that though.
Can you give a little detail on what talisman and black house is about?

THE TALISMAN is about Jack Sawyer, a young boy who goes on a long journey to try and save his mother's life. She's dying (of cancer, I think), and she happens to be intertwined with a queen from another dimension called the Territories. Jack travels across America and the Territories, trying to find and defeat Sloat, an evil magician in the Territories who is also his uncle in the real world, and somehow find a cure for his mother that will also save the queen and the Territories. He encounters a whole lot of people and places, including a werewolf named Wolf who is a peculiar, yet lovable, character.
BLACK HOUSE is very different, but deals with the same main character. Jack has grown up and become a detective, and he's pretty much wiped his mind free of any memories of the Territories or his adventures. A serial killer mimicking Albert Fish is on the loose, and Jack is one of the detectives looking to catch him or her. But to do that, he'll have to remember his past and return to the Territories to stop a being who works for the Crimson King (the mysterious antagonist in the DARK TOWER series, first introduced in INSOMNIA). Wolf is briefly mentioned at the beginning, but other than that, there are no werewolves.
