Jack Russell, the "Werewolf By Night," returned to comics in MOON KNIGHT #20. Well, sort of. It wasn't actually a modern story, but a flashback, and it didn't really seem to have much to do with the current Moon Knight storyline. But it was good for what it was, and the werewolves looked ferocious.
[Spoilers]
Marc Spector (Moon Knight) is currently on the run from Iron Man and the US government for defying the Superhuman Registration Act. While in hiding, he remembers a time when he was investigating a series of bloody murders in 1994. An underground gambling group was capturing derelicts and bums and injecting them with werewolf blood, then having them fight. The blood came from Jack Russell, who they had imprisoned; it can apparently turn anyone into a werewolf temporarily. Then they fight until one dies and the spectators bet money.
Moon Knight and his female assistant (whatever her name was) infiltrate the group and unleash the werewolves on their captors. Moon Knight then faces off with Russell, who at this time had no control over his lycanthropy. Moon Knight beats the werewolf with help from his girlfriend and her gun. He claims that the only way to beat an animal is to become one...but then says he isn't an animal and spare's Jack's life.
Jack changes back into a human for no discernible reason. Moon Knight doesn't seem to care much for him, but he tells him to run away. Moon Knight and his girl leave, with Moon Knight showing some bruising from his battle (he wasn't bitten). Then we return to the present and see him leaving his sewer hideout.
[End spoiler]
So, it was a fine read, but it doesn't seem to have any bearing on the main storyline, nor does it have any ties to Jack Russell's previous appearance in LEGION OF MONSTERS. There's no transformation scene, just a brief shot of Jack at the end of his transformation.
