This looks like it should be a good horror/comedy.
Synapses is:
"After witnessing the brutal murder of his family, Jack Brooks (Trevor Matthews) is left with an unquenchable fury that he is constantly fighting to control. Now working as a local plumber and struggling in a relationship with his girlfriend Eve (Rachel Skarsten), Jack’s life has become a downward spiral. One night, Jack attempts to fix Professor Crowley’s (Robert Englund) old, rusted pipes, but unknowingly awakens an ancient evil. Lured by this demonic power, Professor Crowley discovers a monstrous black heart that quickly forces its way inside of him."

I've just seen this DVD for sale in WHSmiths. Looks entertaining but at £12.99 seemed to much to spend on something i don't really know about.

It's pretty good. The monsters do look like blokes in rubber suits though It's definately not a film to be taken seriously, and the humour most would find it somewhat amusing though only a few would like all the humour elements in the film. I'd say wait for it to come onto TV or for it to drop in price to about £7.

I'd rent it, but...I don't know. Some of the clips showing Robert Englund's transformation look really gross. I don't know if I've become squeamish or something, but ever since I saw the transformation scenes from Dario Argento's "Demon" movies, I've felt very uneasy about watching people graphically change into monsters.

I love the Demons movies! It's the teeth and the nails, right?

I've not seen the Demon movies, although they sound familiar.

Seen them and bought them, at least the first 2 anyway.
The one that is claimed to be the 3rd one has nothng to do with the first two, and is in effect about an ogre of somekind. Though now they say that isn't the 3rd one and The Church is the 3rd one - though that too isn't related to the first two.

I love the Demons movies! It's the teeth and the nails, right? Well, the blood that comes out of them. And the one lady's throat. I really shouldn't be talking abut this now; I haven't eaten lunch, and I'm losing my appetite. But I suppose that's better than throwing up.

I've seen this movie (bought the DVD actually) and I didn't find any of the transformation or other other effects particularly gory. The demonized students look very much like deadites, ala Army Of Darkness, and the thing that Englund becomes could have been a leftover yokai from Kibakichi. The African Cyclopse is equally goofy, though the forest troll was pretty decent looking.
Over all, I really liked JACK BROOKS. Fun flick; not good, just fun.
(but definitely not wirth the $18 USD I paid for it)

This movie is great i liked it. I dont think this was made to be very serious, more to funny which it was. Some of it is not "in your face" comedy you have to kind of "stand back" and think about whats going on. I would give some examples but i dont want to ruin it for anyone.
