Saw this film the other week.
This film combines two types of horror story. The recently popular "something inside you" type and the "trapped inside with a monster trying to get you" one.
What's nice is it's not a bunch of teenages. instead it's a couple who pick up another couple hitch-hiking (turns out the 2nd couple are criminals and quickly take over the car). Then end up stuck together in a gas station whilst something is outside trying to get them.
The 4 main characters are interesting, and have enough difference from the run of the mill clones to make them worth watching.
There is a slight humour in places, but never over done and it's in no way a horror/comedy.
The effects are good, especially when dealing with the infection. Their is one really poor effect with a hand, but it didn't ruin the film for me.
So, overall it's a film I'm glad I bought, and one I'd say is worth watching.

Yeah, I watched Splinter on the weekend. It's a cool little horror/siege movie with a good concept for a monster. It kinda reminded me of The Thing a bit - in that various bits of peoples bodies separate and come alive. All the actors are good and the fx are uniformly excellent and pleasingly yucky. I love movies like this where people are stuck and have to use their wits and creativity to get out of a bad situation. Splinter is small scale and cheap but also creative and well made. Good movie.

I've seen this one advertised. I'll look out of it eventually coming on the Sci-fi channel.
