Oh, bloody hell, I didn't even notice this thread! It's been difficult to keep up with all the posts these days. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm 24 now. It doesn't feel any different than 23, but at least I know that I can legally rent a car next year. Not that I'll need to.

You can only rent a car when your 25? wow. Over here we can rent them from when we've passed the driving test at 16.

hmm, I remember a friend renting a car several times back when we were 16/17.
Possible I'm getting my dates, and it was a year after that 17/18. Not sure now.

I'm pretty sure my brother managed to rent a car right after he passed his test.
What was this thread about again? Somebody's birthday or something?

In the US, you can drive when you're 16, see R-rated movies when you're 17, smoke when you're 18, drink when you're 21, rent a car when you're 25, run for president when you're 35 (if you're American-born), and apply for social security when you're 60-something.
So, alas, we will never have Arnold Schwarzenegger for president.

Over here you can at
16 - Drive, smoke, have sex, and drink, rent a car, 18 - watch 18 rated films (that'd be the same as R rated), XX - No idea how old you have to be to become Prime Minister, don't think theres an age limit on it, just need the backing of a political party I'd guess. 60 - women can have a state pension 65 - men can have a state pension
I've always found it odd, that you can have sex at 16, but not see a film with simulated sex in it until your 18. Seems silly to me.

Have they changed the law cos you used to have to be at least 17 to take your driving test.

That's so strange! Since i have so much time on my hands i've been on the DVLA website and this is what it bascially says:
Category B Vechicles (which is basically a car) the minium age is 17 unless you are claiming Disability Living Allowance at the higher rate (which means you have quite bad mobility problems) in which case you can take your test at 16. You can drive a moped not esceeding 50cc at 16.
Right, i knew i hadn't gone completely bonkers! Your bro must have been a special case then or something.

Odd, I wonder if they changed things as it was some 20 years ago when he did his.
Either that or I just miss-remembered and he was 17.
