So... who's going to the midnight screening of 'American Werewolf in London' in Soho on Friday the 26th? I know I am!

Too far for me to get to Someone should put up a mobile open air theatre to show horrorfilms at midnight in a park. That'd be cool.

Cineworld are bringing some older films back to the big screen. Most notable for June (well as far as i'm concerned) is The Thing but i bet there not midnight showings! Perhaps they'll get around to AAWIL.

Perhaps they'll get around to AAWIL. The Thing is part of a some UK nationwide rereleases this year by Universal Pictures of some of their classic films. We get: Spartacus (June 9th) Blues Brothers (July 24) Scarface (Aug 21) The Thing (Sept 11) Animal House (30 Oct) I wish they'd done American Werewolf too, but I think it was only distributed by Universal and was in fact a Polygram Pictures production.

This turned out to be a pretty cool night in the end. The Curzon Bar was renamed and re-decorated as The Slaughtered Lamb, a band called Joana and the Wolf played, there were people dressed as deacaying Jack and those nazi monsters, and John Landis, Jenny Agutter, Kim Newman (horror critic) and Paul Davis (director of Beware The Moon) were all there. John Landis introduced the film and talked about all sorts of things including Michael Jackson and American Werewolf in Paris, and was very witty and fun to listen to. Unfortunately he confirmed that a remake of AWIL was DEFINATELY happening, developed by Dimension Films.
The movie looked so good on the big screen, and finally confirmed my opinion that this is my favourite movie of all time (sorry Night of the Living Dead!).
If anyone lives nearish London and wants another chance to see AWIL at the cinema, it's also showing at Frighfest in August, part of a double bill with the documentary Beware The Moon.

Sounds like it was a blast.
I'll reserve judgement on the remake until I see it I think. Hopefully they'll deviate from the story of the original enough that it can be viewed more as a sequal.
What's the betting the werewolf will be all CGI?

I'm hugely jealous. That would have been utterly awesome to go to. What with John Landis being there along with the wonderful Jenny Agutter. Wow! Did you get to meet them at all?
Yeah, I've heard about the remake. The way Hollywood is nowadays it was always gonna happen. At least it isn't Platinum Dunes doing it - the Michael (Transformers) Bay company who did the recent uninspiring Texas Chainsaw, Amityville, Hitcher and Friday the 13th remakes. But, to be honest, I really don't care. We'll always have Landis' classic, which is simply impossible to better. They can do their worst...and I'll just laugh.

Yeah, it was aces. The famous people were pretty cool and hung out with the audience in the bar beforehand, but I didn't really talk to them save for a few hellos. Still, very nice of them. Landis, Agutter and Davis are all gonna be at Frighfest too so maybe I'll make more of an effort to talk to them then....
Marcus, I did hear an unsubstantiated rumour that the remake will indeed be a new story, and may actually be one of those 'American Werewolf in Tokyo/Madrid/Antarctica etc' titles that we joked about somewhere on this board.
darkwolfavenged, yeah, I have yet to be impressed by anything by Platinum Dunes, with their endless slick but empty remakes. Even their 'original' movie The Unborn came off as a bit of a rip-off of other movies, and was, unsurprisingly, slick and empty.
As for CGI, I can only hope it's used sparingly, or not at all!
