It looks like the re-make is moving forward. I do not think I finished watching "The Number 23" but you can never judge a script by its film. I am not a fan of remakes but werewolf films are so few and far between (especially with a budget and a good cast) that it is fine by me. The good thing about this remake is that it forces them to try and better the transformation sequence. The question is will they go with a quadruped design again as with the original film? werewolf-news.com/2010/08/an-american-werewolf-in-london-remake-official-script-by-the-number-23-writer/

O MY GOD! They have officially crossed the line with this remake crap. I really want to find someone to punch right now. That movie is perfect, you cant do it any better so why even try.

Well the reason their trying is because of $$$'s.
I'd have prefered a sequal, about the Nurse's child, who now grown up has an 'experience' which triggers the latent werewolf gene/curse/venom.
The experence could be the death of his mother, or coming into contact with the blood from the werewolf in the 1st film, which was collected and stored in a lab where they were researching the werewolf's body. Or becoming very angry (Don't make me angry mr McGee, you won't like me when I'm angry). Or his mother dies giving birth to him, and when he's grown up he's told about his father, and he goes back to the moors to try to find out what happened, but ends up changing and ends the film where he's living in the village and prowling the moors every full moon.

Moonreaper, the best form of protest is to not see the film at the cinema or on DVD. It may seem futile but just as with politics every vote counts. I am not a fan of the original so this news is music to my ears.

Well Im not one for protesting unless I can speak to the source. Im still going to see it, probably get pissed and a little ashamed as my friends say "yet another laim ass werewolf flick," but in the end I will go home sit with the light off and watch the original with an even bigger smile on my face thinking to myself "this is greatness." Personally I think a remake helps brighten up the past and as far as money making, that is why I believe the new age of horror lies with the indie and straight to DVD films because that my friends is where the passion is today. Ok Im done preaching.

My feelings exactly, Marcus. There are so few werewolf films that I don't mind a remake. In my opinion re-makes don't taint the original, bad sequels do. This film being re-made is not going to stop other werewolf films being made in fact quite the opposite. From what I have read the Weinstein's have said it will be "dramatically different". They have said they are "really looking to depart" from the original story. It looks like it might be in 3D which I don't have an opinion on since I don't know much about it.

they should just make a sequel to Dog Soldiers instead of remaking a movie. i hate remakes regardless of what movie it is.

Yep, why even call it a remake if its "dramatically different". Its a laizy way to make a quick buck in my eyes and I dont think a remake taints the old one. I thinks it polishes it and for every remake their is a special edition dvd release of the original. Like Parana for example, I passed through wal-mart and found a Roger Corman Collection Edition of the old one just because of the crapy remake.

Yep, why even call it a remake if its "dramatically different" It is for financial reasons. Re-makes, like sequels, have a built in audience. They need the name of the original to create interest financially and with the audience. They want it to be "dramatically different" to avoid the scrutiny of it not being as good as the original. True, it is a safe way to ensure they will not lose their money. I am not a fan of remakes either and would much rather they made original films. On the positive side there will be a new series of werewolf films with decent budgets and theatrical releases (I am assuming remake rights include sequel rights but this might not be so).

Dog soldiers 2 is being done and follows on a couple of months after the first movie ,allegedly with kevin mkidd(sp) reprising his role ,well that the word on the grapevine at least.

I see your point Ian, but still think that if they are going to make it different from the original they sould give it a sequal title. You can still ride the original title to some extent, I think it would still draw a crowed and you wouldnt have to worry about living up to the original because it a sequal. Aside the point, anyhow you were to rename a movie doesnt mean its going to be good, would a different name have made Dark Wolf any better? And I am hearing more and more about Dog Soldiers 2, will have to keep a weathered ear and eye on it eloojak.

Yes, I see what you mean. I am curious as to whether they will change the title somewhat otherwise they will have to shoot it in London. Perhaps they will call it "An American Werewolf In 3D"? It would be funny if they chose Rob Zombie to direct it. Can you imagine what his version of AAWIL would be like? Rob Zombie because he did the 'Halloween' remakes and the 'Werewolf Women of the SS' trailer. Wes Craven is another favourite of the Weinsteins/Dimension. liveforfilms.wordpress.com/2009/09/25/weinstein-talks-scanners-hellraiser-and-an-american-werewolf-in-london-remakes/As far as I know "Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat" was cancelled. They even removed its IMDb page. It was going to be directed by Rob Green ("The Bunker") and Kevin McKidd was going to reprise his role as Cooper. Here is the teaser poster they did back in the day (alas):
