AWIL is the Holy Grail for most WW fans and they are going to "re-invent" the story for a modern audience apparently........Now that really shits on my chips when I read that. I loved Carpenters original "The Fog" & the re-invention of that involved a group of teens & should have just been re-named "The Turd" in my opinion. If they dare to fuck with AWIL in the same way then somebody somewhere needs shooting. I wouldnt mind watching or reading something about the origins of the story behind East Proctor the village in AWIL but again it would have to be handled by someone who respected the original fans feelings !!!

CGI WEREPUPPIES PRANCING AROUND PICCADILLY CIRCUS HERE WE COME!
It's somehow comforting to know that no matter what we do, no matter how hard we resist, Twilight has despoiled werewolves forever.

No, don't hang yourself, don't let twilight win like that!
Besides, give it 15 years or so, and twilight wll be the 'classic' that's getting remade, and you never know by than the wheel may have turned and gone back to gorefun.

That's irony for you. All the Twi-fans or Twekkers or whatever they call themselves (Twits sounds good!) will in 15 years be crying about how the current version is 'like way better'.
Slasher fans hate the Slaher remakes in the 2000's. Hammer fans hate the Slashers in the 80's. Universal fans hate Hammer in the 60's. Don't ya love tradition!

We might not have won the battle with Twilight but ultimately i think we will win the war. Hawkeye is right, things go in cycles and there will come a time when werewolves are werewolves and vampires are vampires.

I agree with you...especially the part where you say 'Hawkeye is right'.

I am not a fan of remakes either but werewolf films are so few and far between that it is fine by me. I would rather a remake than no werewolf film at all. Let's face it, beggars cannot be choosers in this genre.

Yeah there are too few werewolf movie but remake the shit ones, not the great ones. Remake Darkwolf or some other shit like that! Or finish the projects that have been lying about in limbo hell. We're still waiting for the werewolves on the moon movie.... Make that instead.

If only, Werewolf.
Remakes are rather like tabloid newspapers. We all complain how awful they are but unfortunately curiousity often gets the better of people.
I feel the same way about the remake of AAWIL as I did the remake of 'The Wolf Man'. I welcome it. I don't think these remakes are going to hurt the genre (of traditional werewolf films) and if successful they could rejuvinate it. I feel indifferent to these remakes. If they did not exist nothing would be changed.

I just wish when they did remakes they were doing it more to update and expand on the original film to the latest techniques and advances, spending time and effort making it an improvement, rather than doing them mainly so they can cash in on an already exiting fanbase.
Infact I wish instead of remakes they did prequals or sequals most of the time. Like with Deathrace, whcih for me, is more a prequal than a remake - showing the origin of the Deathrace before it went beyond the prison walls and out into the country wide race. Or as with The Thing, they took the idea and then improved on it by making the alien much much better and more dangerous.
That's the kind of 'remake' I want. Not just a carbon copy made with little effort to improve what has gone before, but staying true to the nature of the film. Otherwise give the new film it's own name and identity rather than trying to force it into a name that it doesn't suit or deserve.

My thoughts/feelings exactly.
Even though the remake of 'Village Of The Damned' was not very good I appreciated all the new elements that John Carpenter added to the story.
It sounds like the remake of AAWIL will be a remake in name only as they have said it will be "dramatically different" and they are "really looking to depart" from the original story.
The Weinstein Company/Dimension Films seem to be in the business of remakes (Halloween, Piranha, Short Circuit, Hellraiser, Children Of The Corn etc.) Looking at what they have done/are doing with these franchises (Halloween, Piranha etc.) gives you an idea of what to expect with the AAWIL remake. I am curious as to the following: Will Rick Baker be doing the special makeup effects?

I'm actually all for remakes, it's just that they don't remake films these days, do they? They take a concept and a brand name and just make their own little movie.
I watched the 'Addams Family' feature the other night and it's great! It's nostalgic, colorful and quite simply a whole lot of fun! 'Star Trek' was not bad (although far from perfect), 'Ocean's Eleven' is fab. 'A Star is Born' with Judy Garland is a remake, as are quite a couple of established horror classics like 'Curse of Frankenstein' or 'The Thing'.
What these films have in common is that, like Marcus pointed out, they either try to expand the original idea or they rely heavily on being tributes to the source materialand nostalgia. I'd love to enjoy more recent remakes, if Hammer (one of my favorite brands in horror) could create a whole new generation in horror out of remakes, why can't they do it today...?

The Piranha remake *Shudders* It's not often a film actually disturbs me in places but this one did. Nothing to do with what the piranhas were doing, it was what people were doing to other people to get away..... Sorry went off topic for a moment there. The Star Trek reboot was one of my favourites. I thought it was brill. Fingers crossed for a Bill Shatner cameo in the next one!
