We are neck-deep in overtime so my time and energy to watch stuff is pretty limited, but I did manage to get a couple in on my short weekend...
Orphan: First Kill (2022)
On Paramount+, we get to travel back in time to see the origins of Esther. Thirteen years later, Isabelle Fuhrman reprises the role she originated when she was ten and has to play it several years younger.
I have to admit, part of the fun of the movie was watching the tricks they used to pull it off.
I liked this one, too. They managed to keep a prequel interesting to me, which doesn't happen often.
The Amityville Moon (2021)
I think I missed exactly *why* they linked this to Amityville. Well, not really. They did it for name recognition, obviously, but I don't remember Amityville being anything more than a passing reference. It's not like it had anything to do with *the* house.
A police detective investigates girls missing from a "halfway house." Are they runaways, or did something with fur and fangs and a dislike of silver get to them?
Better than I expected, but that was a very low bar it had to clear. An okay wolf mask and an attempt at an actual, practical transformation get it at least another half-star from me.
On Amazon's Freevee service (formerly IMDbTV).
My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022)
I really liked the book, but the movie just never grabbed me. Entirely possible I was just too tired. Also possible that they really shouldn't have tried to squeeze the book into a 90-minute movie. (and this is from someone who usually complains about movies being too long!) Another possibility is that the book involves high-schoolers in Charleston, SC in the 80s and I actually was a high-schooler in Charleston, SC for a bit in the 80s and so knew a lot of the references, all of which were absent here. I don't think they tried to place it anywhere in particular at all.
On Amazon.

Always in season. I really need to get back to my run through of them (along with about a million other things). I also need to stay away from Walmart while they have the NECA Monster figures on the shelf. Way too tempting...

They took pity and gave us a two-day weekend. Probably be a while before we get another...
Beast (2022)
New one streaming on Peacock. Idris Elba fights a CGI lion to protect his kids. The lion actually looked pretty good and I'm all for CGIing animals so real ones don't get hurt, anyways.
Hellraiser (2022)
New on Hulu. The Hellraiser movies have never really thrilled me and this continued the tradition.
Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters (2013)
Fun action/horror flick with Jeremy Renner and Gemma Arterton playing the famous brother/sister duo. Another 3D Blu-ray viewing.
Also checked out the first couple of episodes of Netflix's The Midnight Club. Created and written by Mike Flanagan among others and based on the works of Christopher Pike.

Should've added this even tho it's technically a TV special
Werewolf by Night (2022)
New Marvel holiday special on Disney+, bringing the Marvel Monsterverse into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Delightfully old school, in black and white, and even with the good old 'cigarette burn' reel change marks popping up in the corner. Really liked it.

Halloween Ends (2022)
Well, I didn't think the 2018 Halloween was that good and thought Halloween Kills was actively bad so I went into this expecting to not like it so...I guess I wasn't disappointed??
The best I can come up with is that it's the "The Last Jedi" of this trilogy - some ideas that might've been okay in another movie, but not as a chapter of this particular trilogy.
Hell Night (1981)
I was actually looking for my Legend of Hell House DVD but couldn't find it so I picked this. Hey, it's got 'Hell' in the title so it's all good. With Vincent Van Patten, Peter Barton, and the legendary Linda Blair.
College kids staying overnight in an abandoned mansion for an initiation stunt find out they're not alone.
Bring It On: Cheer or Die (2022)
The venerable cinematic series veers into (sadly PG-13-rated) slasher territory. Twenty years ago a tragic cheerleading accident(?) cost the life of a young cheerleader. Only now has the Diablos cheer program been revived but under massive restrictions on the stunts they can perform. Frustrated, the team heads to the abandoned school across town to practice the forbidden activities but someone doesn't want the team to succeed...
Like I said, PG-13 so no gore and not much blood. Definitely not overly serious but an enjoyable enough time as long as you go in knowing what to expect. The lead actress, Kerri Medders, looked very familiar. I realized she's the daughter of David Boreanaz's character in SEAL Team.

Yep...still doing tons of overtime but I snuck one in before nodding off on the couch...
Tales of Halloween (2015)
Nice little anthology with a load of familiar faces in front of and behind the camera (with cameos from several people who usually stay behind the camera like John Landis, Mick Garris, and Joe Dante).
Uneven like most anthologies but they're all short and fun. I think my favorite had to be the Friday the 13th/Evil Dead-inspired tale "Friday the 31st."

Work usually greatly interferes with my chances of actually getting to enjoy October/Halloween and this year it pretty much destroyed it.
I did manage to sneak one traditional flick in...
Trick or Treat (1986)
The classic tale of Rock's Chosen Warrior, Sammi Curr, and his number one fan Eddie 'Ragman' Weinbauer.
After his idol's death, Eddie plays tracks from Curr's unreleased album backward to find ways to get back at school bullies but of course, things get out of hand.
Love the movie, love the music (by Fastway), love the cameos by Gene Simmons and Ozzy Osbourne, love that it was filmed in my home state... Just a big ball of fun for me. Science fiction TV fans should note that the film is also the only acting credit for Glen Morgan, who would go on to be a producer for The X-Files.
While at Mom's for her birthday, I did manage to get some episodes of Kolchak: The Night Stalker watched thanks to a MeTV mini-marathon. I caught "The Vampire," "The Werewolf," and "The Spanish Moss Murders." That helped take the sting off of basically missing Halloween entirely this year.
Maybe next year....
