Phantom Thread (2017) For me, basically Paul Thomas Anderson's love letter to Douglas Sirk. Just like Carol (2015) a tad bit overrated. Not on par with Far From Heaven (2002) or A Single Man (2009) I have not seen this but I know that Sir Daniel Day-Lewis never disappoints. He has now retired but what a body of work he built over the years!

I have not seen this but I know that Sir Daniel Day-Lewis never disappoints. He has now retired but what a body of work he built over the years! I think DDL will be like Joe Pesci, he'll come out of retirement only for PTA or Scorsese. DDL took a hiatus once before - to learn how to make shoes! PTA seems to be interested mainly in shorts. His full lengths are far between. OTOH Scorsese remains quite busy in full lengths and his pairings with DDL have always been top notch. Whether DDL or JP ever decide to return to the screen, I hope they retain that ability for the rest of their lives. Jack Nicholson retired when he realized that he had to concentrate more on remembering his lines than on acting. However, Olivier kept his mojo all his life. His last performance in the BBC King Lear at the age of 76 was IMO as powerful as anything he had ever done.

Unfriended (2014) Unfriended:Dark Web (2018) Any good? Found footage films are usually not on my favorites list. Likewise most slashers. Neither am I involved in Facebook except as a convenient way to logon various places. So unless these are really good, I might not be interested. (Boy, is this guy hard to please!!!! )

If you choose to skip em, not missing out on anything.

Catcalls (2017)
A 9 minute short that has more horror substance than some full length films. Very nice.
On Shudder

Seoul Station (2016)
Animated prequel to Train to Busan. Pretty good. Animation is nicely done. Dialog in English subtitles is sometimes a little awkward in translation from Korean. Good zombie thrills and chills. And nice twists along the way with a satisfying ending. On Shudder.
If anyone out there has not seen Train to Busan, it is free with Netflix and also Shudder. It is possibly the best zombie movie ever.

Characters more tolerable in the second one? Good. I have seen some horror movies where the characters were so obnoxious, I wanted them all dead ASAP.

Curse of the Crimson Altar (1968) released as The Crimson Cult in the US Having mentioned The Werewolf (1956) in another thread, I was going to watch it on Dailymotion but the link to The Curse of the Crimson Altar caught my eye. Overall, this movie is not very good. But many pieces sprinkled throughout are quite good. These are mainly due to the efforts of the cast: @ Boris Karloff as the witchcraft expert (whose hobby is collecting ‘instruments of torture’) and surprisingly is a good guy. This was the last role played by Karloff and was done entirely in a wheelchair. He was 83 at the time and died not long after filming and before release. @ Christopher Lee, descendant of the witch burned in the 17th century does a very good villain. @ Barbara Steele as the witch herself. Blue skinned and weirdly dressed, she appears only in dreams and hallucinations. See her here All of the above horror movie veterans are in top form. Michael Gough, with some horror movie credits in his busy career, also appears but IMO is not given enough to do. Mark Eden is listed in third place in the credits but simply is not up to snuff in this kind of role. His love interest, played by Virginia Wetherell, is a knockout but not much else. There are some rather strange and even kinky scenes in the movie, especially the dreams, but not limited to them. As I alluded to before, the movie does not come across as a coherent whole and the ending is an example of that.

Not really into the story or the characters but I wanted to see how it was going to be handled. Meh. Not sure if I am ready for the second right now.

Downtown Abbey: The Movie (2019) Down town Abbey? Maybe a police detective drama? Not really making fun. I make enough 'inertia' type typos to understand.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014) I am told that this movie can be very confusing unless you watch the first four in the franchise. I was confused by the first one but all of them together are supposed to make sense. Have you seen them all? Is this a reasonable assessment? Maybe I will tackle the whole series someday. But for now, I will leave this one alone.

Watched it. Could have been a lot better IMO. Saw what was coming pretty early on. Ending sucks.
