Momo: The Missouri Monster (2019)
Presented as a segment of the non-existent TV program Blackburn's Cryptid Casefiles, this movie consists of a documentary about the town of Louisiana, Missouri (that’s what I said) where allegedly there were sightings of Momo in 1972, and interviews with residents about those sightings, all interspersed with pieces of a non-existent 1975 movie supposedly about those sightings, but actually a spoof of 1970s monster movies. The TV program and the 1975 movie are fake. The town, its history and the interviews are real. Got all that?
But wait, there’s more. Call in the next … uh, skip that. What came next were UFOs. Lot’s of them. And in the popular imagination they were of course linked. In the fake 1975 movie they definitely came across as linked. In the end, the interviews mostly downplayed what the fake movie highlighted and there does not seem to be a whole lot of real-world substance behind Momo, the Missouri monster.
The movie is sort of fun, mainly the movie within the movie. But overall, not a big deal.

Forbidden World (1982) Cheap Alien rip off (with a bit of Star Wars at the start) that is surprisingly not bad. Sets and FX are quite good if you do not look too close. The futuristic looking geometric 'bumps' on the hallway walls are simply a variety of Styrofoam salad bar takeout type containers spray painted and arranged artistically. Acting and dialog are decent. The plot and development are good with some nice twists, as well as chills and thrills along the way. High body count. Leaving out the cheesy Star Wars style space battle intro, which is irrelevant to the plot, the science is actually almost credible. Being a Corman special, it should come as no surprise that there is a fair amount of scant clothing, nudity and even sex. In short, my kind of movie.

Final Girl (2015) Not to be confused with The Final Girls (2015) even tho, as it turns out, Alexander Ludwig appears in both. This one has been on my radar for a while and since I posted about the other one earlier, I decided it was time to watch it. From IMDb: "A cute, shy, young girl is new to town, and looks to be the perfect, easily-duped target for a group of boys who want to use her as the final test in their murder game. Little do they know, she is skilled in areas they cannot imagine, and has a test of her own she decides to pursue." It's a very good-looking, somewhat stylized sort of film, I guess because the director started as a photographer. Yet another riff on 'The Most Dangerous Game.' Many of the frames would certainly make interesting photos. Beyond that, there's not a lot going for it. I like the general idea but it definitely seems to fall into the 'style over substance' category. The young girl, Veronica, is played by Little Miss Sunshine herself, Abigail Breslin, who I think really should be doing bigger and better things. If you're in the mood for a 'teen girl / super agent / assassin' movie, I'd suggest Hanna (movie or Amazon TV series) or Barely Lethal instead.

The Professional (1994)
Yes, I watched it again. Again. I do not know how often I have watched this movie, but I had not done so for quite a number of years.
I still love the great performances of Jean Reno as the professional hitman, Gary Oldman as the crazy drug using DEA agent, and of course the amazing 12 year old Natalie Portman.

Joker (2019)
Got the disc from Netflix so I went ahead and watched it so I can put it back in the mail after work.
Rough movie. Definitely not the 'feel good film of the year.' Great acting reel for Phoenix, tho. Back in the day, it took superheroes and vats of toxic goo to create the Joker. Nowadays, it just takes living in this world...

How is that? Sounds interesting enough - modern day copycats of historical crimes.

Maybe I will give it a try after I get around to finishing Penny Dreadful S3. I see it is for rent on Prime. I hate paying for stuff that turns out to be manure. I am not poor but it pisses me off and ruins my day.

@ silverbullet63
I got through the first two episodes of Whitechapel in between some dumb stuff I had to do. I am definitely hooked. Penny Dreadful can wait. Thanks for the tip.

Finished Whitechapel Season 1. I will attack Season 2 later. Need to 'cleanse my palate' with something else. (Is there a werewolf movie I have not seen?)

The Wolf Man Returns (1959) A six minute short about the Lon Chaney movie that should have been. Clever mash of scenes from other Chaney movies. www.youtube.com/watch?v=hvcGEeWK3uU
