Yeah, guards guards is one of his best. I've liked all the books in the guards story arch. He did it very well, and Vimes is one of my favourite characters, and probably the one that tends to evolve through the books the most.

This could already be common knowledge to some of you but i've just heard that the next Discworld novel to be made into a TV movie will be Going Postal. I was kinda hoping it would be one of the City Watch ones but oh well. I wonder how he choses?

I'm surprised it's Going Postal. I would have thought they'd have done one of the earlier books. Than again it is a good story.

I was hoping for one of the earlier ones as well..... Well any of the earlier ones other than Equal Rites!

I guess they've picked this one as it's more of a stand alone book, and Terry's writting style of the Disk is slightly different than it was when he started writting them.

Doesn't Making Money feature the same character?

Yes it does. but the character is first introduced in going postal, so it makes it a clean start as it were for a film.
If for example they wanted to do one of the witch books, or the guards books, they'd have to really start back at the first time they appeared, otherwise a lot of the character development is lost.

I guess i'll have to get a copy of Going Postal. It's one of the few i haven't read yet. I've just finished The Truth and am now reading Monstrous Regiment, i'm half way through but i think i can see where it's going......

I enjoyed Monstrous Regiment, not one of his best I thought but a good fun read.

No definately not one of his best but good none the less. I'm keeping everything crossed that he will write another City Watch novel in the near future.

In an interview he said he thinks he'll be able to do 2 or 3 more disc books before his illness progresses to the point where he'll be unable to write. But, he'll keep going for as along as he can write.

It's a crying bloody shame. I hope he has many good years ahead of him where he can not only write but also spend time with his family. He's got quite a rare form of the disease hasn't he? And it's not one i'm familiar with. My Great Gran just had the common form of alzhimers but even with that she lingered in her own world for 7 years before passing away. I can't imagine being alive but not being able to remember those around me.

He did a program about his illness and the various treatments, both medical and more . . . unorthodox available. Was very interesting and he seemed to be in good spirits (though that could just be for the cameras).
His work station is pretty cool. He uses 6 LCD large monitors in 2 banks of 3 on his desk. One for his novel, one showing his website, one showing a forum he talks on, one where he does some internet research, I forget what the others were for. But was also cool to see his screen saver was the matrix green text one.
If it's ever repeated I'd say its worth watching for any Terry fan.

Me and my Mum watched it. It was a really good show and i felt a little chocked for him as he tried to read from his new book Nation at that convention. I'm trying to read Going Postal at the moment but i'm struggling to get into it.

Didn't have a problem getting into Going Postal - had more trouble getting into The Truth when I frist read that as my first read through felt like it was a guard book with different characters and organisation, so it jarred a little. I think due to it being a "detective/who done it" plotline which tended to be only in the guard group of books before. I like the Von Lip character in Going Postal, he's a fun conman. I've got his lasted disc book on preorder I really should go back and try rereading Equal Rites, its my least favourite of his books, but it was a long time ago I read it so I may be more responsive to it this time round.
