Being straight, male, and over 12, I have of course not seen Twilight. Unfortunately the sequel 'New Moon' is going to feature werewolves so I might have to see it. Has anyone seen Twilight, and is it as insipid as it looks?

This may be a silly question but what has being straight, male, and over 12 to do with not watching Twilight? I've not seen it yet (it's not released at the cinema yet over here), though did catch a couple of trailer clips which makes it look like somekind of vampre/romance type of film. Am I missing something about this film?

Apparently it has a terrifyingly huge army of fans, the majority of which happen to be 13 year old girls. I'm thinking it looks a lot like 'Blood and Chocolate' but a bit more shallow and sappy. The only thing that has me worried is that as it was massively succesful, I have a feeling that any vamp/werewolf movie being made in the near future will be rejiggered (is that a word?) to make it all pre-teen friendly, to get the same huge audience.

I hear the vampires 'sparkle' in the books....
(meanwhile, I keep seeing some emo-looking werewolf book called "Unleashed." anyone know anything about it?)

Just looked up "Unleashed" on Amazon. Someone named Misty and her friends have "learned to shapeshift." I didn't realize it was something that could be taught.
There's a video game called "Sonic Unleashed" where Sonic the Hedgehog turns into a werewolf-like thing. I'd be more inclined to play that than read this book.

I have to say having read about the books in the series i really don't fancy Twlight at all. Plus i've heard some of the special effects are terrible. At one point you can see the wire used to supoort an actor climbing up at a tree! Plus it is in essence a love story and i've never really been a fan of those to be honest.

I actually saw Twilight and loved it. I've read all 4 books also. The Movie for New Moon (Book 2) is in pre-production. The script is finished and it will start filming in March 2009 and should be out maybe December 2009 or early 2010. Also, the movies for Eclipse (Book 3) Will be released in 2012 and Breaking Dawn (Book 4) will be released 2013. I will have updates up when they become available.

Ahh, but twenty twelve of which callender? There's so many to choose from.
I think I'll wait till Twilight comes on TV and then decide after watching it if it's worth buying or not.

I saw Twilight, with my girlfriend. It wasn't that bad, although it is geared towards teenage girls. And I read the second book New Moon, because I heard that it prominently featured werewolves. Almost half the book is about the werewolves, which are native Americans. The descriptions of the transformation and hunting and stuff are pretty good, but unfortunately the vamps come back into the picture near the end and spoil it. lol

Yeah....it's pretty lame. Maybe not the worst vampire movie I've seen but pretty weak. Add to that stuff like the main dude looking like a bobble-head with a permanent bad hair day and...ugh.
High point for me was Rachelle Lefevre from "Big Wolf on Campus" in a small part.

Watched this the other month. Wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
Pitty they didn't make the "sparkles" look better, made it as follow contours and highlights rather then the overall sparkliness they did.
The mythos of the vampires in the film weren't the most cool I've heard, and seemed a little silly in places.
Overall it was an ok teen love/drama type film with a vampire theme.

There's a video game called "Sonic Unleashed" where Sonic the Hedgehog turns into a werewolf-like thing. I'd be more inclined to play that than read this book. A game I'm just dying to play. I do have the action figure though, and there's also a pretty cool Computer Animated short about the "werehog" which is pretty cute. If you really like werewolves....and video games...I suggest getting a copy of Morrowind and the expansion set called "Blood Moon" My cousin let me borrow the Twilight book...but the wording just seems kind of...iffy. I may watch the movie just for the heck of it. But I'm not sure yet. If the sequel has werewolves, I'm probably going to want to see that. As for the straight and male comment in the OP...all I have to say is you're being a bit steriotypical. There's nothing wrong with liking the same things the opposite sex likes. Well, within reason.

Sure, I know that. It's just that Twilight is rapidly starting to annoy the hell out of me. I remember when vampires where scary and evil, not pretty posers. And I don't even want to know about that 'sparkling' thing. It bothers me that any vampire movies that come out now will probably be pressured into appealing to the enormous Twilight fan-base to make more money, and that could easily apply to werewolf movies as well. So we might be in for a lot of 12-rated romance 'horror'. The awesome Near Dark was re-released recently in the US. The new cover is just horrible: videoeta.com/images/movies/ml/LGE_D25813D.jpg
