I only saw the first Howling, so I won't be too biased.

I dunno, I really enjoyed all of Howling movies except for one. I'll be looking forward to another Howling.

Pobably CG the new wolfman proved to me that special effects are dead. They used a lot of CG even when they had Rick Baker to do the effects.

Found this synopsis about what the remake will be about:
"When the lights go down ... The Moon will rise ... And a Legend will be REBORN
On the eve of his high school graduation, unremarkable Will Kidman finally bonds with the girl he has long yearned for, reclusive Eliana Wynter. But he also discovers a dark secret from his past... that he is about to become a werewolf. Now, in an effort to fight destiny and save their love as well as their lives, they must battle not only Will's growing blood lust but an army of fearsome beasts bent on killing them... and then, us all. "
Lets hope they remember to put gore in it, and not just luvy duvy stuff.

I doubt they will be able to afford GOOD CGI so if they choose to do CGI werewolves they will look like cartoons.
The best thing about "Dog Soldiers" was that there was no CGI (werewolves). Models and puppets look real because they Are real.

I'm not against CGI just for the sake of being against CGI.
What I'm against is when they use CGI as a cheap alternative, simply because CGI isn't cheap, only Bad CGI is cheap. Or using it not because it's the most effective technology to represent on screen what is happening, but because its 'new and shiny' where as animatronics and physical effects are viewed as old school and dull.
The right technology for the right useage. Shouldn't matter if a technique is decades old or if it was invented yesterday, only that it does the best possible effect out of all the ways of doing it.

Models and Animatronics rock! Definitely. I'm not against CGI just for the sake of being against CGI. Neither am I. That would be absurd.
The right technology for the right usage. Shouldn't matter if a technique is decades old or if it was invented yesterday, only that it does the best possible effect out of all the ways of doing it. No need to argue the obvious with me! I agree completely. If only film makers had your instincts, Marcus.

The right technology for the right useage. Nothing against CGI, although I do prefer my wolves oldschool It really depends on the specific effect wheter CGI/Physical effects works or not...

Personally, I like a horror film to look gritty and dirty. I prefer Vhs because of that reason. The old school horror has a touch that stuff now-a-days cant match simply because of old techniques and the 80mm film they used instead of digital. Technology is giving a whole new age of horror, some good and some bad.

I was saying something similar the other day about the remakes like Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. They just look too polished.
Meanwhile, I'm not stoked by the synopsis but I'm very glad it's not another remake of the first one.

As a filmstudent I must say digitalfilm is a blessing, especially full HD which looks great. Digital editing, no need to develop the actual film, synch sound. And if you want it gritty and grainy, you can add filters and experiment as much as you want! Technology is our friend, but technology doesnt make a good movie. You know a film is great when you can watch it projected on a dirty bed sheet... So I say long live digital film! As long as people tell great stories instead of just making 'a film' (which is something different) I'm game
