I had to rewatch parts of episode 2 as I kept getting into the scenes and forgetting to read the captions!! I rewatched the whole thing anyway! ;D Excellent work Noel, looking forward to part 3. As am I. Presumably it will include The Return of the Vampire, which is as much of a werewolf movie as it is a vampire movie…although watching Lugosi as a vampire is always fun. The werewolf in that one is interesting in that he is somewhat different from the prior lycanthropes in several ways: appearance, transformation trigger and even a different slant on “werewolf angst”.

But worth the wait. The only one I never saw is Le Loup des Malveneur. It looks nicely spooky. And glad to see one of my all time favorites: The Return of the Vampire. Good job!

I well remember seeing The Werewolf as a kid in the movies. (Also Ray Harryhausen’s delicious Saucer movie it played with.) I had never seen a werewolf movie before and was used to the ‘horror comic’ supernatural flavor kind, so radioactive wolf blood was a new idea merging ‘classic’ horror with the atomic age. Interesting twist in keeping with the times. Everything was radiation in those days. I Was a Teenage Werewolf also played with a Saucer flick, the intentionally humorous Invasion of the Saucer Men. Michael Landon’s teenage angst filled lycanthrope performance was a memorable one. By contrast the follow-up Teenage Frankenstein was ‘monstrously’ bad – bad idea, bad script, bad acting. Make a Monster and Jekyll’s Daughter were to my taste rather forgettable. I never saw El Monstrou but it looks like it might be interesting.

I'm a child of the 70s so I have to wait a little longer before Noel reaches the ones I grew up with.
Enjoying each episode, your doing great Noel.

Episode five is up! Featuring the talents of Mr Oliver Reed. And Curse of the Werewolf is indeed a winner. Loved those lush Hammer period pieces. This one was even worth a ripoff in the next decade...oh wait, that's the next installment... The only other one I saw was Lycanthropus under its silly US title. I recall not being overly impressed with it, but I have seen much worse movies. But that German Shepherd defending the girl against the werewolf immediately reminded me of Bad Moon. Go Thor! The Chaney movie might be interesting - looks like a classic Chaney overacting but you love it performance. Once again, good job!

Episode 6 is here! Featuring the likes of Vincent Price and Christopher Lee. I am ashamed to say that out of this set I have only seen House of Horrors. The werewolf episode in this anthology is one of the odder wolf tales, though an enjoyable one. This movie (and the werewolf episode as well) is also an early example of a device that was to become used too often in the following decade - the dark switcheroo ending. At least it is used effectively here.

Episode seven is here! The first of two episodes about the Waldemar Daninsky movies. There are so many I couldn't even cover them all in one episode.
Now where is hawkeyepierce when you need him ...

My viewing score is even worse this time. I have not seen a single one of these movies. But they sure look interesting. The feel of them seems to be somewhat like the Hammer films and the Corman-Poe films of the 1950s and 60s, which I love! I doubt that that kind of thing would sell in today's world of aggressive post-innocence.

The problem with the Daninsky movies is that you can usually only find them in the English dubbed versions, and the dubbing is always awful.
The visuals are super, though, and Naschy/Molina himself is great. His films do tend to veer towards exploitation a lot more than the 1940s classics which inspired them. Naschy's Wolf Man likes to tear women's clothes off, for instance, which I can't seem to remember Lon Chaney Jr ever doing ...

This is about as close as the Wolfman got to 'fraternizing.'. But this publicity shot had raised expectations a bit more. Exactly what is Wolfie looking at?
