For me, this is Raimi's best film. Never Talk To Strangers (1995) Trashy erotic thriller, a guilty pleasure of mine. Most of Raimi's directorial stuff is horror / sci-fi genre. I was happy to see he could do 'straight' movies that well. Sam's brother Ted sometimes showed up in Sam's stuff. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gIGk9PATvsI understand that Rebecca De Mornay does a sex scene in Never Talk To Strangers, worth watching? Yes, she bares all and steams it up with Banderas.

Cobra (1986) One of my favorite 80's action/thrillers The 50 Merc should have had more screen time. Cobra demonstrates that if you are going to go over the top, go way over! www.youtube.com/watch?v=0X_I3it2XLA

All Through The House
Very bloody very gory slasher, with a really weird and different background story that is slowly revealed in between murders. Nice pacing there. I am not big on slashers but this was unique enough to hold my interest. Surprisingly good looking and well done low budget film. Even funny at times. Acting by main characters is rather good, dialog reasonable.
Not your usual Santa suited killer story. And not for the squeamish. You will see what I mean even before the credits role.

Over the top super macho is an art. Stallone can pull it off. So can Schwarzenegger. (Commando is my guilty pleasure.) Cruise and Segal fall short IMO.

Wind Chill (2007)
Stuck in a car in the snow on a haunted back road at Christmas time. The movie is carried almost entirely by a young but already very secure in her talent Emily Blunt and by Ashton Holmes, who I was not previously familiar with but who acquitted himself well. The story is as much about the evolving relationship between two strangers as about the ghosts. The story gets complicated so it is necessary to pay attention. No gore or even blood but some killings anyway. The acting, direction, plot development, camera work, musical score and the overall professionalism of the movie make it worth watching. While I enjoyed the film, nonetheless in the end I came away with a feeling of ... um ... what just happened?

Christmas Chronicles Not horror at all but definitely fantasy. Not your Hallmark Channel Bailee Madison type of Christmas fantasy either. And definitely not the Coke commercial Santa but Santa as he ought to be, portrayed by Kurt Russell who plays it to the hilt! Thrills, maybe a few chills, and lots of fun! And a good corny Merry Christmas ending just as it should be. From Netflix

Jack Frost (1997) Jack Frost 2 (2000) The sequel was even wackier. No attempt to even pretend to make sense.

Haven't been watching much. Lingering sickness has me pretty much falling asleep during anything.
Did just force my way thru IT: Chapter 2 tonight. Nearly 3 hours long, half of which was more adventures of the kids vs. CGI weirdness. Which was fine in a way, because the kids were great but we'd already seen that for two hours in Chapter 1 so I would've preferred it if they'd just let this be the adult half and kept the length down.
And took advantage of an unexpected night off (we're so slow at work they just shut down) and went to see STAR WARS. Think I'm leaning towards the "it was about as good as it could've been under the circumstances" view. With part of those circumstances being the fact that nothing will ever hit me the way the original did when I was ten years old. I just count myself lucky that I can still sit down and enjoy the things from back then without 'adulthood' intruding and changing my views too much.
Meanwhile, THE WOLF MAN is coming on Svengoolie right now....

For me, an essential feature of the book was the continual interleaving and linking of past and present once it got rolling. We got to see how the characters were the same but also different and that IT was happening again both the same as before but also different. But not everything that works on the page works on the screen. I was already in my thirties when Star Wars first came out. It was like the old Flash Gordon serials of my youth brought back to life but with better scripts, better acting and much better production values. I can still recall very clearly that experience in the theater and I find it astonishing that it was that long ago and also that Princess Leia and Chewbacca have both moved on to a place far far away. Meanwhile, THE WOLF MAN is coming on Svengoolie right now.... I recently saw The Wolf Man (1941) again for the umpteenth time. I decided to skip Svengoolie and keep the uninterrupted, unedited, unspoofed version in my brain intact.
