Thanks to, well, feeling miserable, I was home last night with nothing else I could do so I pulled up BETTER WATCH OUT on Crackle. I'd post a preview link but I'm really glad I went into it pretty well blind. All I knew (aside from seeing a lot of 'likes' on a facebook post about it) was the one-line description: "On a quiet suburban street, a babysitter must defend a twelve-year-old boy from intruders, only to discover it's far from a normal home invasion." www.sonycrackle.com/watch/5852After that, Crackle auto-played the number one Christmas movie of all time, so even tho it was earlier in the month than usual, I went ahead and watched DIE HARD.

Better Watch Out was not my kind of movie at all. I caught on quite early and for me that twist is all there was to the movie. In general I want supernatural horror not something that might actually be in the newspapers, unless the presentation is really really well done like maybe Psycho. But that's just me.

Krampus A different kind of Christmas horror story from the usual slashers. There is blood and killings of course, just not how one would expect it to go down. Not a great horror movie but fun nonetheless.
The Nightmare Before Christmas A classic (IMO) from the dark imagination of Tim Burton when he still had full possession of his mojo. And it's a musical!
Scrooge 1951 Remember this is a ghost story. Of the many versions, the 1951 Alistair Sim film is the definitive one for me. Before anyone starts throwing George C. Scott at me, take note that his 1984 version was virtually a scene by scene, word for word, almost frame by frame clone of the Alistair Sim one. The best part of the 1984 movie was the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come sequence, which was quite spooky, spookier than the 1951 film.

Aside from the established classics like DIE HARD and LETHAL WEAPON, I'd have to put GREMLINS at the top of my personal "Favorite Christmas Movie" list.
I remember conning my aunt into taking me to see it by only showing her pictures of cute, fuzzy Gizmo in my Fangoria. Throughout the movie, she was either laughing hysterically with me or scrunching down in her seat going "why did you do this to me?" We both saw where Phoebe Cates' story about her dad was going before most of the audience did and were already snickering, getting a bunch of disgusted looks from people around us wondering what sort of monsters we were.

I snorted like some kind of animal trying to keep from laughing out loud as she was telling the story about her dad. I also knew where it was going. The girl I was with caught on as well and grinned big time but kept quiet. People around us were taking it seriously and even gasping which made it even funnier for me. BTW we were in a 'state', let us call it, which made anything like this hilarious. We met accidentally after not seeing each other for years and decided to do a movie, something we used to do a lot, always with 'enhancements'. Back then, we had almost melted into our seats by the end of Young Frankenstein and nearly died of hypoxia before the end of the opening credits of Monty Python's Holy Grail. Those were the days, my friend.

Christmas Evil 1980 Original title: You Better Watch Out, not to be confused with the 2018 movie mentioned above. Man is obsessed with Christmas, rewards good children with toys dressed as Santa and kills bad adults. Strange, even wacky, movie with oddball humor throughout and a hilarious ending. Available online apparently only on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekbfJr8GTQ4&vl=enBut I understand there is a Director's Cut (!) now out on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Not horror (tho I wonder if the Seven Deadly Sins were portrayed a little too hardcore for my mom to want to sit thru it) but I'd forgotten that the recent SHAZAM! movie was set during Christmastime until I put it in to watch it tonight.

Anna and the Apocalypse (2018) So...I know what you're thinking. "Yeah, SHAUN OF THE DEAD was good, but what it really needed was a Christmas setting and musical numbers." Well, in that case, this is the movie for you: youtu.be/dfWIfwKJ7vAI just watched it on Amazon Prime and really liked it. The cast was good, the songs were catchy, the kills were bloody...nearly everything you could want from a Christmas Zombie Musical. I'd say watch the movie first but there are a couple of official 'singalong clips' on YouTube, like this one: youtu.be/GeQ3ATrrz2I

Blood Christmas (2017) aka Juleblod
Brutal Noweigian slashet, set on Christmas Eve.
Heavily influenced by Black Christmas and JC's Halloween.

I watched Anna and the Apocalypse. A Christmas Zombie Musical - just what the world needed!
This is both a pretty good musical and a genuine scary zombie apocalypse movie at the same time. Lots of gore and and lots of humor all mixed up together with singing and dancing. Definitely a good watch.

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale The real original Santa Claus is dug up from his grave in Finland. Unfortunately he is not at all like the one in the Coke ads. Neither are his helpers. Nice horror story, scary and funny. The meaning of the title is revealed at the end. Most unusual ending. Available on Prime
