I commented on Wind Chill earlier. Impressions? I watch Wind Chill every December, since it hit dvd. Decent horror film with Supernatural elements. Once you get past the dopey Rom Com dialogue between the two leads.

Once you get past the dopey Rom Com dialogue between the two leads. The 'Rom Com' seems to be intended as prep for (a) Him being empowered enough to come back as a ghost and save her and then partly because of that (b) Her becoming a better person. IMO these were aspirations that did not work all that well. But it is a good ghost story. And the acting level is well above the norm for the 'college age kids in a horror movie' sub-genre.

Ghostkeeper (1981) Snowbeast (1977) I had not seen Ghostkeeper before. A pretty good idea but could have been done better IMO. More foreshadowing of the ending for one thing. As it is, I found it hard to buy into, Still, it was watchable. I remember Snowbeast from the first time around but I watched it again. I saw no reason to change my opinion - a lot of snow(job) but very little beast. Nonetheless it is fun in parts. Yvette Mimieux and old pro Sylvia Sidney (in her small role) hold their own, as does Clint Walker in his too small part. (My guess is that he could not ski well enough.) But the others ... Bo Svenson? Really?

Maniac Cop 2 (1990)
Poseidon (2006)
Not a great remake overall, but the scene when the ship flips didn't disappoint.
Saw this opening weekend back then and it looked amazing on the big screen.
If Poseidon had been a box office hit, remakes of Towering Inferno and Earthquake would've soon followed.

Got that one running in the background right now. Before that was New Year's Evil.

Snow Beast (2011) Not a good movie, but not really deserving of the bad rep it got. Cheesy to be sure but that is part of the charm. Acting and dialog are not great but could be worse. The best performance IMO is by the teenage Danielle Chuchran (now Danielle C. Ryan, switching her more prounceable middle name to the end.) halfway between the child of The Cat in the Hat and the woman of Love Finds You In Charm. The Beast is too clearly a man in a suit with a Halloween mask but is not too terrible. It is quite similar to the one in Snowbeast but is seen much more often with only a modicum of slow reveal. The film is only vaguely like Snowbeast, which, like Grizzly from that same era, was simply a Jaws ripoff plot wise. Snow Beast is rather more original in that department. For example, a really sound rationale is given for a really bad decision. And you know where that leads. You also sort of know from the beginning who makes it to the end although there are doubts thrown out about that along the way. Bottom line: Sort of classy cheese. I have watched and enjoyed much worse movies. But back to the suit, it is somewhat clumsy looking, like the old time gorilla suits that looked like a fat man was in them. This may have been jokingly referred to within the movie. When it took four trank darts to briefly stop the beast, the guy says that it was heavier than he thought it would be.

I remember seeing Terror Train a while back. Interesting idea but IMO clumsy execution. (sorry ) Good old Jamie Lee was a bright spot in it though. It was also nice (and surprising) to see Ben Johnson not riding a horse.

I think it owes its rep to Jamie Lee, David Copperfield, and maybe the somewhat unique setting (I dig trains, at least).

Random thought turned up by seeing The Poseidon Adventure referenced. I remember the first time I ever saw stand-up comic Paula Poundstone. She walked out onto the stage, laid down on her back, head to the audience, and put her feet up on a bar stool that was there. Putting the mike to her mouth, she asked "If the theater turned over right now, which of those things on the ceiling do you think would be the way out?" Right then I decided I liked her.

Night Hunter (2019)
Superman vs. Serial Killer.
Quite generic so far, derivative of superior films that came before it.
