Yes, less fur gives it a leaner look and I also think the dark black fur gives it a more sinister appearance.

I like both the brown and the black fur. I even like the grey and silver sometimes.

Those are a lot different looking than the UK version.
Looks like they accidentally went to the poodle parlour and had a shave. Saying that I do like how they look.

They could do a lot worse with the design for them, though without the heavy fur they tend to look a bit scrawny from an angle or two.
