I think the best transformation besides "an american werewolf in london" is in howling 4 and also in bad moon. Also in an episode of x files called "shapes" if i remember corectly.

Didn't see it, but I can tell you...weird is good in my book. (B-Movie cheezy effect weird, not "Mondo Cane" weird, Mondo movies are disgusting)
There was this fuzzy filter effect in "La Marca del Hombre Lobo" with red lights and everything which is REALLY cool! Was it something like that?

Didn't see melting puddle of goo either. Is that in Howling 4?
I seem to remember being slightly disappointed by X-Files episode. Didn't see enough of the werewolf for my liking.

The melting scene makes me nauseous. Which is weird, because not much makes me nauseous.
I thought that the Van Helsing transformations were fantastic. I don't have problems with CGI TF's and werewolves unless they really suck like Darkwolf.
That's pretty rare, though...I guess there's the TF's from Howling 6 and Bad Moon, where they just take a picture of the person and morph it into a picture of a wolf. At least in Bad Moon, they morphed a video of the person, so it looked somewhat more realistic (and the story was good, so I liked it).
Ooh, I just tought of something...there are a couple werewolf flicks I've seen that most of you probably haven't that I can chime in on (in case you ever run across a copy and wonder if it's worth it).
Moonchild (I think that was the name) was crap. It was the photograph morph-stye.
Night Shadow was crap. They have this hobo-looking guy growl and show fangs, then they show him double over and convulse, and then they just cut to a shot of the werewolf's shadow as it howls.
Lone Wolf was surprisingly good. They used make-up and prosthetics (sp?), along with extreme close-up shots of different parts of the person's face changing. They did it that way to hide the werewolf's identity, but it also helped make the transformation look decent.

An American Werewolf in London is of course #1 but I think #2 is Harry Potter. This was an absolute beautiful scene, the transformation, the acting everything about it was very well done. Too many new movies have cheap digital change scenes, I think if thats the best they can do just dont show a full change.

My best werewolf scene will have to be from the 1st howling. plus its not just 1 but 3. Obviously when Eddie transforms but also when TC has his quick transformation. Nest will have to be or course AAWWIL. But for those wanting a good one, try
""Tre volti del terrore"" or ""Lone Wolf""
Both have been on Youtube.
But i also see no one has mentioned the transformation scenes in the ""Werewolf"" Series. The very first one was very good for a pilot episode..

Didn't see melting puddle of goo either. Is that in Howling 4? Saw this last night on Zone Horror so i finally know what you mean about the puddle of goo. At first i wondered what the hell was going on! It seemed a more horrific first transformation that David Kesslers in AAWIL and actually i thought it was quite clever. Very different. Very Original. I actually really liked the werewolf design that the doctor turned into in the Bell Tower, reminded me of a larger version of that little thing that sat near Jabba the Hut in Return of the Jedi, think it was the ears!

no way.....the best one is in van helsing but the nly one i like is the one at the end(that ills dracula) because t looked more real and not like other ones ive seen in some movies....and maybe the skin ripping of is only because it hasnt fully taken them over...like they said after a cerain point van helsing becomes a full fledged werewolf...

There is no way the Van Helsing movie transformations beat an AAWIL. Those scenes were groundbreaking and although i agree that the end transformation when Van Helsing turns is better than when valken turns there's still no way i'd rate it the best transformation. Certainly better than the DarkWolf CGI but no match for AAWIL.

AAWIL I think has the best werewolf transformation. Partially because of how long it took, and how much it showed, like his ribs changing, and his foot stretching. I admit he didn't turn into the best looking werewolf, but the transformation you could almost feel the bones grindng and stretching to new shapes.
The CGI transformations I think, tend to be too quick, and tend to gloss over the pain such body morphing would be. They also tend to try to make the transformation look cool rather than painful. Which for me jars against how I think it should be.

This gut didn't just clutch his stomach, drop behind a sofa and then jump up as the werewolf. You felt for this guy.
